You don't have to do anything as moderator, but you can do everything :)
I volunteer. Just so I can expand my knowledge of human relations.
I have the time and am on the forum quite often.

> (Norlandia Andrikken Hotel)
The tourism guide sez: The hotel is situated in the city centre of Andenes and offers one of Europe’s most exciting experiences – whale safari! We stake our reputation on offering the best of traditional recipes, and we can offer overnight accommodation in fishermen’s shacks at the nearby Lankanholmen.
I was working with an older gentleman there who remembered the Germans burning the town down during the war (probably accidentally). He also told me "I like whales", then realized this might be misinterpreted and clarified by adding "I like to eat whales". :-) He mentioned that they had a whale eating holiday but I don't remember at what time of year.

Alan
Well, it was hardly an accident...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnmark#World_War_II_and_the_Cold_War:
"Towards the end of World War II, with Operation Nordlicht, the Germans used the scorched earth tactic in Finnmark and northern Troms to halt the victorious Red Army. As a consequence of this, few houses survived the war..."

> I would like to ask all volunteers if Pictures of dead/cooked Fish offend them?
They don't offend me, they just hurt my feelings...
I PM'ed Felix offering to volunteer. I do not see my role to censor or delete pictures of dead or cooked fish. In general we want a high level of activity on the list and I am sure a funny picture of a fish - if somehow relevant in the context - will only help the list being active. Postings that are likely to make serious contributors less active would be removed if I was to become moderator. In general I prefer to keep intervention to a minimum, however my tolerance for postings that are clearly off topic is limited and I would prefer that such postings are moved to a special section for messages deemed unsuitable for general consumption.

Which is in general what we do today, and very is deleted, but the line fine ;)
Most of the "moderation" tasks is to split some topics once in a while, and move a thread here there between forums :)
I promise to not abuse them, and I will try my best to make The Rybka Forum a better place!
> I think that what we simply need is moderators to be active in moving off-topic posts to "The Flip Side"
Don't worry, that was my main concern, so you can expect me to do it from now on (Branching off-topic posts to The Flip Side. But I think that the off-topic discussion should have a certain length, because I wouldn't like to create new threads on the Flip Side for just 3-4 off-topic posts.)
Also, I think that swear words shouldn't be protected by freedom of speech (last time a swear word was not censored and one member threatened to leave the board.)
I agree--otherwise, there will be more threads in "The Flip Side" than in the Rybka subforum.
Another thing I wonder: at times, perhaps it might be best to create new threads out of "off-topic" parts in other threads in "The Flip Side". I am thinking of one in particular about a discussion of military and Middle East policy that has become painfully squished to the right side of the screen.
There, for example, you could "report" a long off-topic discussion that needs to be branched to The Flip Side, or, like you suggest, branching threads that are too long and the indent is eating a ridiculously big part of the page (Along with reporting of personal attacks or swearing, etc.) Would that be desirable?
Surely, abuse of the report-function should be avoided - and so far I think it has :)

I am not aware of this issue, and i totally agree with you.
> i hope there is an election
Just as long as it's not done via a secret ballot. Voting should be a trust, not a right! [See Chapter 10 of Mill's Considerations on Representative Government]. :)
Alan
And I'm happy that it was not election based, as I wasn't elected on election, it would have been unfair (but since Soren was chosen like me, everything remains fair :) )
> A good aristocracy is better than democracy
Can we start an Anarchists Subforum? Or should I do that without permission? :)
Felix, when do we get our fifth yellow pawn? It's about time we got it! [Deleted] ?
Felix, your sense of propriety is really screwed up! Who did this to you? Do you stand on your head when you make your decisions?
What's wrong with that?
Are you asking me if you are " NORMAL" in how you make your decisions? ( You walked right into that one!)
(Felix, all this is tongue in groove-don't you dare take any of this seriously) :-)
Robert
I take that sid-serious.
[ EDIT: I should have added a lot of :) :) :) :) ] ;)
