Leiden 2012

I prepared book for this event. We had little technical problems during first round and that it's why we used some testing books. This should explain some strange lines in the first rounds.

1) Spartacus-Rybka

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bc4 Nc6 4. d4 cxd4

[D]
r1bqkbnr/pp2pppp/2np4/8/2BpP3/5N2/PPP2PPP/RNBQK2R w KQkq - 0 5

- after 5.Nxd4 wasn't 5..Nxd4 forced (5..Nf6 6.Nc3 transpose somewhere in B57 or B88-89), but Rybka played bext moves sensible and quickly got big advantage.

2) ProDeo-Rybka

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Be3 e5 7. Nb3 Be6 8. f3
Be7 9. Qd2 Nbd7 10. g4 O-O 11. O-O-O b5 12. g5 Nh5 13. Nd5 Bxd5 14. exd5 Qc7
15. Kb1 Nb6 16. Na5 Nxd5 17. Qxd5 Qxa5 18. Bd3

[D]
r4rk1/4bppp/p2p4/qp1Qp1Pn/8/3BBP2/PPP4P/1K1R3R b - - 0 18

In this game ProDeo played very long main line of Najdorf, which wasn't booked well for cluster in testing book. However ProDeo played opening imprecisely (19.c4!) and quickly got worse position

3) Rybka-Spark

1. c4 c5 2. Nf3 b6 3. g3 Nf6 4. Bg2 Bb7 5. O-O g6 6. e3 Bg7 7. d4 O-O 8. Nc3
Ne4

[D]
rn1q1rk1/pb1pppbp/1p4p1/2p5/2PPn3/2N1PNP1/PP3PBP/R1BQ1RK1 w - - 0 9

This time we got quite playable position from opening. Spark played littl bit weird manouvre Ne4-d6 and got slightly worse position. Rybka transferred game into Fischer-like endgame R+B vs R+N which played perfectly and won.

4) King-Rybka

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. cxd5 exd5 5. Bg5 c6 6. e3 Qb6 7. Qc2 Ne4

[D]
rnb1kb1r/pp3ppp/1qp5/3p2B1/3Pn3/2N1P3/PPQ2PPP/R3KBNR w KQkq - 0 8

Or testing book included this very dubious line for black. King played safely but missed simply draw after 12.Nf4!.  After this white position went down very quickly.

5) Rybka-Redqueen

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. g3 d5 4. Nf3 Be7 5. Bg2 O-O 6. O-O dxc4 7. Qc2 a6 8.
Qxc4 b5 9. Qc2 Bb7 10. Bd2 Ra7 11. Rc1 Be4 12. Qb3 Nc6 13. e3 Qd6

[D]
5rk1/r1p1bppp/p1nqpn2/1p6/3Pb3/1Q2PNP1/PP1B1PBP/RNR3K1 w - - 0 14

From this game we started use cluster book. Redqueen played one of the main line of Catalan, however 13...Qd6 is secondrate move (better is theoretical 13..Qa8) and Rybka got quickly advantage thanks to nice positional exchange-sacrifice.

6) Pandix-Rybka

1. c4 f5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. d4 e6 4. Nf3 Bb4 5. g3 O-O 6. Bg2 Bxc3+ 7. bxc3 d6 8.
O-O Ne4

[D]
rnbq1rk1/ppp3pp/3pp3/5p2/2PPn3/2P2NP1/P3PPBP/R1BQ1RK1 w - - 0 9

Finally we played Dutch in Leiden. Position is doubleedged, still I think that white should be little bit better, but doubled c-pawn is chronical weakness and without active play white will face problems. Pandix unlucky moved his bishops to queenside and his position went down.

7) Rybka-Critter

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 c6 4. e3 Bd6 5. b3 f5 6. Bd3 Nf6 7. O-O Qe7 8. Bb2
O-O 9. Qc1 b6 10. Ba3 Bb7 11. Bxd6 Qxd6 12. Nc3

[D]
rn3rk1/pb4pp/1ppqpn2/5p2/2pP4/1PNBPN2/P4PPP/R1Q2RK1 w - - 0 13

Critter played unusual 12..dxc4 and pawn structure became very quickly too much symetric. Rybka claim slightly advantage during whole game however it was never real tangible, Critter defended well and made easy draw. I have some improvements for the future in this line.

I congratulate to Critter and Pandix team for their results and want to say thank to Lukas and Vasik for their work during tournament.

Hi Jiri thanks for the post.

Well done Jiri, Lukas and Vas for winning in Leiden.  Things like the Critter game are bound to happen, it's hard to win every single game with the competition being so strong now.  It was great to see the cluster in action again!

Best regards,
Nick

2) ProDeo-Rybka

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Be3 e5 7. Nb3 Be6 8. f3
Be7 9. Qd2 Nbd7 10. g4 O-O 11. O-O-O b5 12. g5 Nh5 13. Nd5 Bxd5 14. exd5 Qc7
15. Kb1 Nb6 16. Na5 Nxd5 17. Qxd5 Qxa5 18. Bd3

==========

Oddly the ProDeo book states 18.f4 and not 18.Bd3. The book continues with: 18. f4 Nxf4 19. Bxf4 exf4 20. Bd3 Rae8 21. h4 Bd8 22. Qf5
g6 23. Qxf4 Re5

So basically Rybka was very lucky :lol:

Congrats Vasik, it was good to see your program in action again. Kudos to Richard also, a draw against the Rybka monster.

Methinks 20...g6 purely on statistics.  The Shirov-Gelfand line from 1996 is probably what you're following.

Due to Vas's recent forum behavior I just can conclude that he no longer has time for posting regularly on the forum anymore.

He can always copy and paste!

Anybody can do that and create Vas speech that is true and could have been said by Vas, what about this?

"Possibly I will release the source code to Rybka 5 in a few years, when it has no remaining value. I haven't decided about that yet. It's not something I am considering right now."

~ Vas copy paste

Yeah, people very deperate can create a Vasbot that posts new content in that manner.

"Endgames are not important" and such outbreaks could prove to be a bit hard to mimic, though.

What about this:

"It's easier for a queen to jump like a knight than to promote like a pawn!"
~Vasbot

...

You're right, a Vasbot would suck! :yell:

i think it's because he has a child... i have one.. and i visit VERY seldom :(

i love this forum, but my life changed.. i think in a year or so things will stabilize (for Uly's sake, i hope in a few months [cause of our game]).
i'm sure the same is true of Vas.

other motivating factors might include the fact that his name was dragged through the mud... and cause of that so many things changed..

Tomsk: Hey guys I have a child, I love this forum but my life has changed. I think in a year or so things will stabilize.

Hopefully, a child is much more important than a forum or a chess engine, so abandoning other things for the child is something I would do.

>other motivating factors might include the fact that his name was dragged through the mud... and cause of that so many things changed..

Here I don't think so, I think most of Vas feelings were about surprise on how the events developed, but that he otherwise doesn't care much about it.

it makes things easier if you can just not care about things...

Still busy tomski? We currently have a stuck game because our opponents can't find a team member, maybe you can help them out
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-05-26 08:00
they now have Kappatoo playing for them.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-05-26 13:51
They do? Great! That means we can start the game now?
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-26 20:32
now?not Uly,better when we will end the games 5 and 6,now we are going to start those games, and appart from that none of us spoke with Dadi to see if he help us and create for us (also for your team if they want) a private subforum where only members of our team can go and read...

and since you are a mod and you are playing in the other team,a subforum without mod intervention, tht i think we dont need because we are going to post only about the game, and after the game the sub forum will be openend to allow people to read it
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-05-26 20:34
We had agreed to start in May, the month is almost over.

It seems you're looking for pretexts to delay game.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-26 20:39

>It seems you're looking for pretexts to delay game

Uly,i havent hair on my tongue,do you think that if that was the true,i need pretexts?

is as simply as that we only found Kappatoo a very few days ago,and we never spoke to Dadi about the subforum

but seems that you want the we start with disadvantage,at any cost;is that true?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-05-26 21:13

> and we never spoke to Dadi about the subforum

Why don't you use the subforum that you setup last time? You don't need a new subforum, you just need to request access to it for all your members.

>but seems that you want the we start with disadvantage

What disadvantages? I just don't want to wait till games 5 & 6 are over, I think we can start already.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-26 21:25

i never thought about that, good point

>What disadvantages? I just don't want to wait till games 5 & 6 are over, I think we can start already

disadvantage about we dont know about each other players, about we never spoke about the strategy of the game with all the players, and also that ppipper those days wont be very active online (as he told me),and even if we agree the other 3 members (that i dont agree),we need to speak with him,is our captain, and we cant take any decission without him
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-05-26 22:27
Well, ask him for a start date.
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-26 22:34
i cant, since he is not logging at the forum;i will send him a private message, and when he will answer me,i will give you an answer
