Hi there, I have recently decided to buy my own components to build a PC. I have a £1500 budget and while i can build a computer
I have no idea what components i will need to match every other to ensure i have the best set up.
It will be a gaming rig, but i would also like it to be reasonably powerful enough to also analyze some chess games at a high level.
It will only be used for gaming and analyzing (web browsing and downloading etc. i will be doing on another computer).
So a decent sound card and graphics card to deal with some of the gaming aspects.
But more than anything, i would like it to be extremely powerful, and efficient. What components would you recommend?
As in processors, motherboard, cooling system etc etc to get the most from my budget.
(I wont be needing a monitor/keyboard/mouse included in the budget as i have those.)

ask him,he is an expert ( Arrière Pensée )
Ok thanks i will
you are wellcome
Here is my expert help - This forum has in its archive a litany of threads re: requests for info on computer builds and processor info - Benchmarks. No kidding. Lots of members have been looking at data on cases, power supplies, processors, cooling systems. et al. It just takes some research skill to find the answers you are looking for and there are a great many folks here who are willing to help you in your quest.
I can be nothing more in a lot of respects than a librarian to help you sift through and bring this data to the fore. But it is you that needs to evaluate and decide what it is you want to put into your build.
Addendum:
There are a great many here who put the data into the archives that if they are willing can come forward and offer their assistance as well.

You need to specify what processor (s) you are interested in?
That would be a good start.
Start Here
Then pose questions about the ones you are interested in.

When you have decided on the processor -you're going to need a motherboard!
leave me out of that one.

P.S
On that Benchmark chart check out the Video Card Benchmarks and look at the card I pointed out in PM. GTX 670! Or, the newer GTX 680...

Hopefully these cards have no outstanding performance issues. Sometimes it is better to wait and let others test the waters.

As far as sound card- I'd say -see what you get for a mobo - the on board sound I got for the sabertooth was decent. My old speaker system is 7-1 creative champion platinum -or something like that -its 4 years old but does the job. The only draw back is on the sabertooth it takes 4 jacks to make a 7-1 hookup where on the creative it takes 3. so I only get 5-1 after some manipulation. My point is you might want to go with on board audio and just buy a decent speaker system.
Like I stated in PM for a cooling system some swear by the pre-fab liquid cooling kits like the Corsair H100-

Otherwise there are sites where you can build a custom water cooling system-
I'd recommend for that Sidewinder computer

My advise is to have as quiet system as possible.
If computer is too noisy, you won't like it work hard
in chess analysis or 3D gaming anyways.

Very good advice !
Yes, one thing I love about my computer is that it's very quiet, I think that's worth the lost 0.07Ghz (I'm too coward to OC it...)
If you have enough noisy women in your house, you won't even notice the noisy computers!

Very true, that is why I love water cooling. I have my now very old Skulltrail running 8 cores at 4 Ghz for what must be like 3 years now. It is whisper quiet and I have to sometimes check to see if the computer is on or on standby .... when you have to do that you know your systems is quiet. I don't think that this type of performance at that decibel level is possible unless you do water cooling.
lol thanks for the advice, but im almost completely deaf so im sure noise wont be an issue :D
