Thank you very much Sir.

indrajit, why you never played 71.Ke2!! instead of 71.Ke3?,that goes directly to a draw?

you missed here another chance of winning the game

here is my line:

71.Ke2,Re8 72.Kf3,Re1 73.Rb4,Rb6 74.Ra4,Re8 75.a6,Kf6 76.b4,Ke7 77.b5,Kd7 78.Rc4 etc... with a winning position

This the the position after 70 moves:

3r4/8/1R6/P4pk1/3K4/1P6/8/8 w - -

How can I play 71. Ke2!! ?
Parent - By Mark Eldridge (****) [gb] Date 2012-05-10 07:03
This would be quite tricky to do.:lol:
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-05-10 14:24
sorry,my fault copying the position,i copied the King on the square d3,not d4... :red:

on the square d3,you can have the winning move Ke2

Good game guys, nice hard fight!

I have to say I found this game most impressive.   The g4 plan worked out well and the resulting bind was hard to shake. It is a shame that white's strong middlegame play did not get rewarded with a win, but the defence was tough :)

The resulting R+2 vs R+1 was certainly much more fiddly to win than I had expected.   I won't enter the debate on it because I have not analysed it thoroughly enough but I will say I found plenty of drawing lines so it certainly needs great care by white if it is to be won.

But it is hard to believe that the position after 58...Kg7 is not a straightforward win.   During the game I looked at a few lines starting with 59.a3 and convinced myself it was a win for white.  Unfortunately I chucked the analysis away, so cannot now check whether it was thorough enough.

Congrats to you both on an interesting game.

I have just posted to the 7-man tablebase thread asking for resolution of some of the points being debated re R+2 vs R+1

Sorry, it's a lazy way of resolving trhe debate but assuming the TBs are correct (and they seem to be in other cases) it will give a definitive anaswer.
