Thanks for the game Mark. Stay well and best wishes in future endeavors! I think the 9...Re8 line is the way to play, and it is quite equal. I suppose the 9...c6 line may deserve a look, and I believe Kasparov played at least a few times, but I think I recall that was =/+/= and 9...Rf8 is a slight +/=. A few cute nuances but I think we saw all the best moves. White's 14th through 16th were the important moves to play to maintain the balance.
There may have been an alternative at point, I think it was, to Rxd8, so to allow Rxd5 and establish a pawn on d5, I did not look at it much, however the position should be equal.
The final position is very much dead even. My plan would have been Ke6, f5, fe, Rf7 and White gets his play by repositioning the knight to d5 and playing Rf7-f3. Zero point in playing it out in computer chess, there's nothing in the position.
