12.f3 Kh8
I've looked at c5, b5, Rb1, a4, Qb3, Be3, and Ne6 and the first and the last at great depth. Probably there are other moves. In the latter, Black seems to equalize here. But it is not a theoretically dead option; I found a few new ideas here although the top players seem to have abandoned this line, maybe the Bayonet in general at the moment, I do not know this for sure as relatively few champion the Black side. Also, regarding 13. Be3 I have not been sufficiently thorough analyzing these positions to come to a clear assessment, although there has been much practice here ;i.e. according to the played theory, I am fine, but I haven't played around enough with the positions.
OTB I have mostly played 9...a5 to assure a game, I played c6 a few times, but I like it less in the postmortem, because the d6 point can be exposed quickly permanently, the idea was to play a5 and take with queen --- obviously White has clearer targets to play for in these sidelines and a +/=/= position, and objectively the main lines are the way to go.
More recently, I've been trying other setups v 1.d4 OTB to expand my knowledge, and I have had a few hard losses. Not ideal, but a valuable experience. Never liked symmetrical positions the most aesthetically, but I want to learn to play all the positions and structures. Then I can learn how to transition between them.
Been playing tournament chess actively for 3 years, but a year at about 2100, despite a higher frequency of scalps, a bit irritating, but studying [starting with my games....] and enjoying is all there is to do to improve, it's quite simple.
On 12.Bf3 c6, Black getting his play much easier.
12.Bf1... xe4 Nf5 Nd4 Bf5 for Black maybe... I'm going to bed soon, I've started rambling now.
Good point regarding Grunfeld on g3... although anything against g3 is good with the right moves.
Appreciate the feedback,
Matt

I was planning to play 0-0-0 but saw black has a better end game after that.
I am very glad to have Nelson and Kappatoo commenting, it makes this just that much more fun.

Black with 52.0% and 72.0% draws.
I would have considered 12.O-O-O which appears very slightly preferable to 12.Bc4. Statistically they look almost the same (though queenside castle is much rarer) but the evaluation, at least superficially, seems to favor it.

I think your find the evaluation favours black after 12.0-0-0 that is why i did not play it.

What are the stats Nelson.
Undoubtedly I will be playing Rac8 bc your 2 v 1 on the queenside possible if ...xe4, but I will take my time now... however, Bxd5 is at least worth a look...
Black with 44.4% and 88.9% draws. Yes, the number of games left is divisible by nine.
Wow, already inside the draw singularity?
Yes, but I wouldn't assign that high a probability. There's a world of difference between 89% draws when you have a thousand games and when you have something in the double-digits.
Thank you Sir.

Pawn is symmetrical, very hard to squeeze a win.
Objectively I think Black is just the slightest shade better should we play things to the bitter end, but in engine evaluation terms, I may rate myself ahead a few one-hundredths of a pawn.
I learned a few things on the endgames stemming from the Exchange variation based on this game and will check Black's 9th move alternatives although I studied them before and did not like them more than 9...Re8, which will likely prove the most reliable.
Black can play a Modern move order to get a KID type position without actually playing a pure KID, it's discussed in Tiger's Modern but that's the one chapter I have not looked at yet, the last one (bc I play the KID) if Black wishes to play something different and it's something for me to look into, especially since a IM had a gorgeous win against me recently in such a line and it really was not so clear where things went awry during the game (as it seems in the best case I would have to consolidate into a bad endgame) and even afterwards although in part his great quality of play was in part preparation (bc he had played it successfully against a strong GM before and bc I had beaten him in rapid chess in a similar line on the previous occasion basically bc he preferred to play pawn down rather than concede a draw and I played well though nothing special but more importantly gained a huge time advantage so I could take my time when needed). Plus Black has to be prepared for the early capture on e5 or an early h4 in a few positions, if the knight develops to e7 rather than f6, often with the idea of Ne7-c6, and the Bg7, Pe5, and Nc6 hitting d4. I guess I should just post the game, I thought it a good one. The move orders are a bit tricky early, but should I work things out, maybe I shall try it this tournament --- yet, I think I will be choosing my Black openings based on what I last studied at least somewhat thoroughly as a sort of test of my studies, and I have some time to improve quite a bit until I play the World Open, but after that my life will get a lot more busy and unfortunately little time for OTB chess for a long while...
[edit: yes i look at my games more than this... but usually put inside game pgn my openings db file first, unless not a relevant game to my theory, and yes, my calculations during the game i thought quite insufficient]

Attachment: IppovMJO.pgn - Interesting KID-structure positions may occur... should have played f6 earlier etc!! (5k)
I admit I would have played slowly in several Black moves and one white move.
White may have a chance to mix things up a bit here, or the game will probably terminate after massive trades. In either case, the result is not in doubt except if some terrible blunders. Of all the variations of the King's Indian, the Exchange here is the one I have given the most study to, simply because it is good to know how to play endgames and because losing in the exchange variation would be rather sad, OTB this has only happened to me once ever. I had until Be6 in my opening AN in this game, but things were not quite as simple as I thought for a few moves after Nc4 Bf8, so it is a good review for me.
Novelty move. The previously cited game played 22...Rc6.
