Just yesterday I finished One game in FICGS which I consider to be the Toughest Game I Have played so far.

In the whole game I used Spark and my tweaked stockfish. Like 20.g3 was spark's Idea. I tried to attack but his defence prevailed. At move 38 I started using Houdini and At depth 30 running after nearly 1 hour it suggested me Ke2 which was acyually blunder. Then It was a pleasure to throw the game away by another houdini suggested blunder 40. Nc6...and at move 45 I had to lose my knight. Now from move 51 I had to find a draw.
Now I switched to Idea as to try it out. But what engines to use ?. I tried Rybka houdini and Stockfish GTB and used Komodo as main engine in IDeA. Now I found that Komodo was the only program that found the correct move orders and luckily I was biased to depend on komodos analysis. Houdini was giving slight advantage to black but if continued further there was fail highs and lows which gave me lots of headache. On the other hand rybka thought the position is lost. It took me 20 days to find the correct move Rb8 where most engines suggest Rc7+ , Komodo suggested Rb8. By following Komodod evals I managed to draw.
Still I think I would have won it but where did I go Wrong ??

ah, i see what you mean. When Rybka went into deep thought its kN/s dropped dramatically this is well known to Lukas and i but most guys just think Rybka has locked up its a trait of Rybka. After deep thought kN/s climb'd somewhat but still very slow, normally i would expect 10x this.
Rybka still finds position very complex.
I have 47 GB of tbs loaded.
Rybka still finds position very complex.
I have 47 GB of tbs loaded.
If you run it with the visualizer you'll see what is really going on, talking about R4.1.
> After 30 mins
Well, that's 32-bit on poor dualcore @3GHz.
I guess that 64-bit on Xeon 2x6 cores @4GHz will get it easily in less than 5 minutes...
Rybka was running on a 12 core machine @4.2GHz so i understand how omprakash thought Rybka could not find it.
I dont have that machine though.....

if i ran this again it could maybe take 3 mins due to random move selection when eval of moves is equal.
hmm. In that case nice.
Komodo does not find Rb8,sure it latches onto it early but soon switches to other moves at least thru d31.Remember Komodo is only 1 core atm.

Well finally, do you think this may be a win for Black?
>It took me 20 days to find the correct move Rb8
Om my friend,20 days???well,i must admit that always is a good idea make the analisis slow but fine
You try to find the draw yourself. Its not so easy. I am not a GM. Rook endgames are very tough.
ok Om,i will analize the endgame, and i will say what i think...and of course,i will try to find the draw (or as you said,a win for you
)by myself
now im analizing my game against Uly,tomorrow/saturday i will take a look

Because you have used spark, you lost the game.
No. Its one engine who thinks tactically. It conjured up a position where I was on verge of winning.
I think one of reasons why a lot of people think poorly of Rybka in endgames is that Rybka kN/s slow down a lot in some endgames and it appears to take forever to reach next depth.
I find Rybka endgame play very good but often frustratingly slow and i have 12 core setup,2x5680's.
See above AN with Rybka.

Paul, rybka plays some endgames that even a player rated 1700 elo points knows that is a draw...i cant tell you now examples, since i deleted rybka from my engines a lot of time ago,but i saw endgames where rybka gave clear advantage (bishop+pawn against bishop of the opposite colour) and rybka stubbornly continues playing and giving something like +-,when you cant promote the pawn because the bishops arent of the same colour
edit:other engines with endgame knowledge embedded, knows that endgame is a draw

yes i know of these adnormalities.I was talking in general compared to other engines and 90% of GM's games.Esp with tb's loaded.
of course, compared to 90 % GM's games and loaded with tablebases,i think even Crafty will play better than them
tablebases gives the engine the knowledge that hasnt embedded inside...just run the engine without the tablebases, and you will see the 'pure' strength of every single engine playing endgames
i dont remember now the name, but there is some tests to test the force of the engines solving endgames positions(to be tested without using tablebases), (also tests to tactics),and rybka isnt a well performer engine, there are better engines solving endgames (i recall that this test just meassure the pure strength of the engine to solve endgames, without using tablebases)

Houdini is good without tbs.see my post here.AN was was without tbs.

my stupid thing of the day
my fault.
dont worry...are the analisis by Hounidi at that page the analisis that you want that i look?
yes AN above is what i wanted to show you.
well, that analisis gives a slightly advantage to black,no a won game...and from what i read, the game ended in a draw, and Om was asking if he can won the endgame from the fen diagram he posted, right?
all engines give advantage to black and good of OM to get a draw.
I think he believed he missed something earlier in the game.
I only posted all of above because i thought OM's statement was inaccurate.

i will look deeply at that endgame,i love endgames, and i wouldnt make a superficial comment about it,so first i will make analisis, and after i will post my comments
but from a first look(and without using engines),not seems possible promote the pawns and win the game like Om claims

>but from a first look(and without using engines),not seems possible promote the pawns and win the game like Om claims
There is no win. Aim is to find draw after the position i posted.
and before that position?had you chances for a win?or that position that you posted is the better that you obtained Om?i mean if you had chances for a win,but you made a mistake in the game or something similar (im asking since i didnt look the game, only the position)
Ya Ya. I had advantage but not sure of win.
well,we learn more about our blunders and lost games than about our won games Om...
True
one of these days i will make a blunder and lose a game,on occasion i do see a line which my opponent could get me in trouble with but luckily he has never played the move.
One game in wbccc 2011 this happened when i found an improved move for white against my lopez Zaitsev.i mentioned this in the game at the time and my opponent agreed,it was very deep though.
