Searching the forums, it looks like as far back as 2008, people were pontificating that Raffael was Kasparov. From the threads, it pretty much boiled down to the fact nobody else on the planet could do it. The few GM's that could have a rating anywhere near that high were already accounted for.
The only other person that was mentioned that could maybe pull it off was Fischer, and that was dismissed immediately. But he died since then, so by default Kasparov was the only real contender left to fit the bill.
I suppose Fischer could have fit the bill if he'd been in his prime and decades younger. Without him being in serious chess for many decades, most doubt he'd be anywhere near the talent of a super GM.
-Analysis of his 2nd match with Spassky in the 90's showed that both players were past thier prime. Not that the games weren't high quality... just not World Championship quality.

I think that "Raffael" is Rafael Artemovich Vaganian. (It seems as the most logical option in this case.)

By the way, why not, because any strong GM from the Top ~100 in OTB chess certainly can be placed within the Top ~20 (with a very high rating for this type of non-OTB chess) in any type of online/server(etc...) chess...
On other hand, I can not imagine any logical (or special/specific) reason for it why would Kasparov to choose exactly that nickname.

Hoprfully he comesback and play again; it would be nice to see him again...
Kasparov is 48 years old (was born in 1963) so i really doubt that he comes back to play again...as he said,just a few rapid tournaments,and maybe a few simuls (like he made in Africa a few days ago),but not playing active anymore
p.s. he (Kasparov) drew against a boy (yes,a boy,aged about 12-13 years...i saw that game on my laptop,and the guy didnt make any single blunder [meaning blunder a move that losses the game] on his game!but Kasparov put his Knight in a prise,and in a move his Knight was lost!)...surely sound weird,but was Kasparov who played the mistakes in the game,and in one point,who had the endgame lost!.the game ended in a draw

Oh ok I see it now...but I don't believe both players would miss that...could be transmission error.
well,if it is a transmision error,i dont know...i downloaded it from that page,the pgn archive,and was the file that i found,maybe it is,since sounds rare that Kasparov miss that tactical move,lossing his knight,and more,the other player miss also to pick it...
but here at Spain,in another simul (if i remember well,about 1992-1993),a teacher won to Kasparov a game in another simul,it was published on internet the game,but i cant find it now...so if Kasparov can losse one game,can losse 2 games;being possible,is possible
even if it was an error (transmision),Kasparov made some weak moves,the rare thing is the boy didnt make any single weak move;you can look at the page and you will see he isnt older than 12-13 years (or even younger)
