I just released version 3.1.5 of Chess for Android, available either at the Android market (Google Play) or as direct download.

New features include:
* Ability to filter PGN games (on player, event, ECO, ELO rating range, or result)
* Automatically re-import last UCI/Xboard engine on exit-re-entry of application
* Finger sweep left or right as alternative game navigation
* Minor improvements in setup position feature

Also see some screenshots.

The built-in engine is not very strong (it is Java version derived from my own very humble C++ engine BikJump).
However, Chess for Android can import third party UCI or XBoard engines, either for direct play, analysis, or even tournaments.

For more information see:
* UCI and XBoard Engines for Android
* UCI and XBoard Protocols for Android
* Chess for Android Manual

Or to get an idea of the strength of some of these engines:
* recent tournament

Yes, all programs listed at UCI and XBoard engines for Android are compiled specifically for ARMv5TE-based devices (most mobile Android devices).
Simply download Chess for Android to your device, then download your favorite UCI or XBoard engine compiled for that device, and you can play it, as shown in the screenshot below.

I'm using this program with 3 different engines; stockfish 2.2, comodo 3 and critter 1.4 running on dual core arm 1.2Ghz. My question is; which one  is the strongest one and what is its estimated elo rank? How could we compare these engines to their Intel  equivalent?

As copied-and-pasted above already, in this tournament, thirty seconds-per-move tournament played from both sides of all positions in the Nunn opening suite, Critter was a bit stronger, and Stockfish and Komodo seem about the same strength.

1 Critter 1.2 32-bit      *     11.5-8.5  9.5-10.5  15.0-5.0  11.5-8.5  47.5/80
2 Stockfish 2.1.1 JA   8.5-11.5     *    13.0-7.0    9.5-10.5 11.0-9.0  42.0/80 1651.50
3 Komodo32 2.03 AB    10.5-9.5   7.0-13.0    *      13.0-7.0  11.5-8.5  42.0/80 1632.25

If you are interested in more games, different time settings, or opening suites, you could setup a tournament yourself using Chess for Android between just these engines. Simply long press notation window, then UCI and XBoard, then Engine Tournament and you can import any opening suite are you interested in.

More details can be found in this manual.

There is no full inter-device tournament option yet (engines playing on Android device playing engines on your Intel desktop, for example), although I recently made connecting Chess for Android as client to any remote chess server more easy. See this blog posting for details.
