Hi,

in the following position is already winning for white. However white has a nice way to finish the game.

On my slow Laptop Critter 1.4 and Stockfish 2.2.2 did not find the aesthetic move within 3 minutes.

I enjoyed studying the complications after Bxh6! on my own.

Hi Om

without analising the position, your question has an easy answer:if the position is won for white, the move that minimizes your chances to dont make a wrong move, and maximizes the chances of your opponent to dont find the good defense

in other words, dont play 'beauty',play 'economic' (shortest way to give check-mate to your opponent)

so,see the analisis, look if one line is 'economic' (a semi-forced line),and play the line that gives you the safest way to achieve the win

My temperament is different. I always tend to play beauty.....:yell:

No. I haven't Looked upon it. I have all my analysis lost after my OS crash. I had to reinstall Windows 7. But the problem still persists. My Mouse is freezing everytime. Dunno why. Ran memtest no probs, CPU temp is fine at 48 C... Still not figured out the problem.
I will Start on this Saturday an post move on sunday.

Does Mouse changing will solve this ?
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 01:48
maybe not, since the controllers are installed with windows 7...

or the mouse install it own controllers?

do you installed any program, and after installing that program, the OS start freezing?
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-24 01:50
Even after fresh Instal 1 out of 3 times mouse freezes. I have to use keyboard only. All data crashes too. CPU temp is ok. RAM is ok. I Ran Memtest. Just doubt about Hardrive.

Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 02:38
another option is download software that checks conflicts between the drivers Om...now im unsure about the name of that software, but you can check about the name at Google
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-24 06:55
No Idea about that.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-03-24 14:32
You can check for that without needing special software.

In the Control Panel double click the System icon, and on the Window that appears go to the "Hardware" tab and click on the Device Manager button.

On the Device Manager window, if there's any driver conflict, it'll have a yellow circle with a ! inside, and you've found your problem. If you don't see any of that, click on the [+] at the left of "Mice and other pointing devices", right click on HID-complaint Mouse, and click "Properties".

There, click on the Driver Tab, then try "Roll Back Driver". If it tells you that there is no previous driver to roll to, then cancel and click "Update Driver". If it tells you that your drivers are up to date then this is not a driver problem.

If you have the mouse in a USB port, try connecting it to a different port.

And finally, I used to suffer from this freezing Mouse problem (only on 64bit, on 32bit it was running fine), the only solution was to switch to a different Mouse.
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-24 14:50
All the drivers are upto date. I have tried to a different port. The problem still persists.
I think I need new mouse.
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 15:35

>I think I need new mouse.

is the first that i told you Om,that you must buy a new mouse
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 15:40
google about it Om,i dont remember the name, and it will help you to check if there is any driver conflit, evenif isnt recognized by the OS
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-25 02:44
what should I check ?
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-26 00:17
check for 'software detect driver conflict' or something similar, until you find a good program that checks the driver's conflicts
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-23 23:59
i understand you Om,and i always try to play to demolis my opponent if i can,not simply 'win' him...but is an error (even if i also play like you) play 'beauty' because that maximizes the chances to make errors...Dvoretsky said that when you can win in an easy variant, play 'beauty' or play with complications,is always an error
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-24 01:45
I know that, But I am a Intuitive player.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 01:51
intuition against engines, you will losse 99,99 % of the games Om...you must trust in tactics, and engines are the king of the tactics...and engines doesnt play beauty, they play 'economic' (play the shortest way to give check-mate,or play the line that gives it the high score, not play 'beauty'(starting from the point that engines doesnt understand what is beauty)
Parent - - By Master Om (*****) [in] Date 2012-03-24 01:53

>intuition against engines, you will losse 99,99 % of the games Om...you must trust in tactics,

Not always. My Intuition always runs on tactics and exchange sacs. Engines sucks when it comes to understand compensation.
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-03-24 02:10
i agree with you about sacs;generally,if the sac. is a 'long time sac.',engine doesnt understand it

Rxh6 is best.

The thing is, that this position:

r1b2rk1/p7/1p2p1Pp/q2pP3/2pP2Q1/P1P2N2/2PK1PP1/R7 w - -

(In where order of captures doesn't matter)

Is a mate in 10 if the rook is hanging there.

With the Bishop hanging there

The plan of capturing the Rook at f8 with the Bishop seems clearer.

Thinks Rxh6 is about 10 pawns better at this depth.

Though, this is probably about the difference on which move mates some moves faster, so I agree with the thread title that it's a question of style.

Now, I wonder if +17.87 is close enough to solve it to mate...

Nice. I believe you but I don't think it would be easy to show as black has many possible defenses.

I guess it could be solved on the fly by leaving a program like ChestUCI solve any black defense on demand?

But you shouldn't. Jeez... Blacks were smarten than me and managed to check 19. bc+
Although line basically is the same, it's mate in 21.

I trained Spike to do the trick
