Hi, I purchased Fritz 13 two days ago. And I have a problem with settig CPU. Fritz 13 uses only 1 CPU, other engines start using 4 CPUs automatically and I have to change manually into 8 CPUs. I don't understand why this Fritz 13 GUI does not accept 8 cores of my laptop?
Can you help me, please?
Thank you.

Fritz 13 is 1 CPU only. You will need to buy Deep Fritz 13 when it comes out if you want to use more than 1CPU.

Thanks. Not good for me. I did not see Deep Fritz in their shop. My mistake.

In their instructions for Fritz 13 I found an information that I can change a number of processors used and there is shown how to do it. And you can see that it's Fritz 13, not Deep Fritz 13:
In the engine window the user now sees a new display of the number of processors used. This display is only relevant for computer systems with several processors and programs that are able to use more than one processor.
Clicking the CPU button in the engine window allows the user to change the number of processors being used.

Simply lazy on their part....

Most people know that Deep fritz stands for being able to use more cores, that's why they probably don't bother writing two separate instruction manuals.

yes. But I checked their shop and did not see Deep Fritz 13, otherwise I would buy it two days ago instead Fritz 13.

So? They release the deep version later in order to make more money, in the hope of people like yourself buying the single processor version first.

you can buy Deep Fritz 12 now or wait 3 months and get Deep Fritz 13.

yes, it's very clever of them. I wasted my money. Next time I will be more careful.

There are lots of programs stronger than Fritz which are FREE. Try Houdini 1.5a or Critter 1.4 or Stockfish 2.2.2 - all of these will beat Deep Fritz 13 and won't cost you anything.

Have you noticed any difference in it's play from version 11 and 12 outside of the obvious 60 elo increase?

It appears to play a bit more actively from my observations.

I haven't got DF11. The best Fritz though, BY FAR IMO, is Deep Fritz 10.1. I do have that. So much more fun than any other version I have:

F4, F5.32, F6, F7, F9, F11, Deep Fritz 12, F13.

It's like all Fritz's before 10.1 were its predecessor and all versions after it are from another family entirely.

They are....

Rybka 2 and Fritz 11 had the same ponderhits most of the time and the elo difference was only around 30 points.

Probably Vas let them have it since R3 was on it's way with a 150 elo increase.

That's a very interesting article but it's not correct: DF11 and its successors are NOWHERE near as strong as DF10 in tactics. If anything Fritz seems to be getting weaker and weaker with each release in this area.

Yes quite suprised he said that but it's marketing. At least the elo improvement was correct, in fact almost spot on!
