Any one have any views on the engine Chiron?

Larry as usual is quick to give excuses:

It seems like he is trying to be a good sport but his "congratulations" quickly dovetails into a litany of excuses.
Better would have been; Congrats to Chiron! Komodo will back next time and ready to win!
That would have been a more sporting competitive way to congratulate Chiron.

I have never used Chiron and am not sure if I want to purchase it or not. SOme people seem to like it!
> The main attraction of Chiron was its very unusual upgrade policy: if you bought the engine when it first came out the author offered free upgrades for life!
Did you purchase it?
If so how do you like it for analysis?
Unfortunately, the engine wasn't very useful for analysis of correspondence games in where it's important to have a very precise evaluation of the position and not just try ideas that don't work. The evaluation seemed jumpy as Chiron was missing critical variations, you know an engine is fine in the position if it loses about 15 centipawns when you show it the plan it was missing, when the engine loses 40 centipawns instead it means it had no clue of what is going on in the position. Chiron and Stockfish jump like that on critical positions, with the difference that often Stockfish is able to show the best plan in the position that other engines missed, and force its variation on them after crosschecking, while I could never see Chiron doing that.
I'd still recommend Naum over Chiron.
> I received a copy for free after trying to help the author to implement learning into the engine. What I like is that it has nice original evaluation and move choice of the positions, and of course, that the author is quick to fix problems and release updates, he listens to users.

Thanks Uly!
I am still leaning towards NOT getting it. For my OTB post game analysis I think I am pretty well stocked. :) (I still love Smarthink as an alternative engine for that type of after game analysis!)
he will release it in the next hours/day
I posted a chiron games thread here with pgn download that i have tested. I like the engine a lot and is worth the money.

Hurnavich.

I think Komodo IS a great engine! DOn and Larry have done great work and the price point for purchase is GREAT! It has become one of my two or three most trusted analysis partners. But Larry's postings are a bit much sometimes. Lots of innuendo and a lack of sportsmanship.
