> IDeA easier
what does easier mean. It depends on how you interpret it.
If you mean more towards an one click operation, press a button, come after some time, get the results, no need to tweak this.. tweak that...
then without knowing anything, i will tell you that this will not happen in the next 200 years by anyone. Autosolving chess is not going to happen.
Less parameters? This would be really bad too. I think it needs even more options so the user can adjust in different situations.
You will respond, but that makes it even more complex, and my response would be that without those options you would produce a worse tree (and you can always ignore them).
An intelligent system that will adjust those parameters automatically depending on the position throws us back to the first case.
So the question is , what do YOU mean easier
When I upgraded to the new Aquarium a while back, I failed even to get the analysis being stored in the tree where I wanted it to be.
> integrating some database and statistic functions to it
> Or a CQL like search
we agree on both (although some will say it will end up being more complex, my opinion is we cannot have a simple tool for such a complex game as chess )
i have a lot more on the wish list for idea
a logger for example + conditional actions (for example if 2000 positions examined... turn of this root and mark as root the best 2 children... etc. Actually simulate what the "user would do if he was there over the board) (made a script for it, although i havent really finished the second part.. the conditional actions.. i am too lazy )
It would be great if this could be pared down to 2 steps.
1) Switch to the Analysis tab in Database mode
2) Click Define custom action in the sidebar
3) Click the "Send to" tool button.
After this you can click the new custom action to bring up the dialog box.
I don't know if I understand you correctly, but I run two different engines on totally 8 cores at the same time on more than one project and they seem to
perform parallel analysis.
> they seem to perform parallel analysis
But the analysis is mixed up. For example, if you have four cores of Rybka and four cores of Houdini, and run two projects, we cannot ensure that one project uses only Rybka cores and the other project only Houdini cores.
How do you assign different engines to different projects, i.e., what do you do in Aquarium to accomplish that?
another improvment will be to make a command to train against a own opening repertoire. A personnal one build step by step with question (program stop and ask you to choose one or several best lines, as you want) to each significant variation in the evaluation. Quid ?
For me Aquarium is a fantastic tool to build a personnal book. Why not train with it ?
I know that the silence of the developers does not mean they are not working on an update. There are many options they can take at this point with Aquarium, they should prioritize.
the proposal of be trained from a own book is for me not so difficult to accomplish. If you observe how Chess Assistant work, you can guess that it is almost done. When a variation in a game show a better move, a red arrow appear on the board to indicate this move. If it is possible to use some advice (evaluation) in a book like !, !?, or += (any one else) or may be a difference in the CAP evaluation or from IDEA, from any source, it will vbe easy to ask the program to react like Chess Assistant. Means, stopped, open a window to ask the user to guess what is the best move. Or what is a decent move between difference balanced suites. Colours, evaluation, international signs, etc... Erverything could be imagine in a personnal repertoire.
Also a percentage of games that were drawn in tree view would be extreemly usefull. 'Success' in tree view doesn't show me how many games were drawn. 50% success could be 500 wins & 500 losses, or just 1000 draws.
'draws' in tree view would enable me to choose lines to add to my repertoire that give me winning chances rather than drawish positions.
Actually a better structured and more interactive opening book configuration under "Opening book settings"
would be very nice. Aquarium gives very few clues of how to use this (besides looking under treeconfig.xml).
I also use a lot Aquarium for this particular approach of opening books. Not only for that but mainly. IDEA is great and unique in the world of chess assistance with machines. Make a own opening book and be able to enhanced it time to time is also very suited. I do gather all informations I can through books, games on the net, databases, training in any form, etc and then bring it as my "secrets" under my own book in Aquarium. That's the reason why I think that if it could be possible to complete the training with this wonderfull program, it will be great and absolutly unique in the world. I know that it is possible to train with an opening book, there is a program like this in ChessOK products. But to day nothing exist with your OWN book.
Agree - it would be nice if success was converted to win/draw/loss %'s
> Agree - it would be nice if success was converted to win/draw/loss %'s
I know that a 'Draw %' column is already on the developers' todo list.
Any chance for Aquarium to run on these machines in the not too distant future?
