Even though this game went kind of fast, it has been one hard shot after another. Hopefully we contributed a little to theory, as now it looks like we will be smoking the peace pipe,

Thanks Al and David, good luck to you guys also in the rest of the tour. Hey David, we're leading!

Do you think the result would have been different if you used more than 5 days on the clock, or is "perfect play" achieved this fast on some positions?
Parent - - By Scott (****) Date 2012-02-13 02:07
Really hard to say. I doubt if I ever would achieve "perfect play" no matter how long I took. But to answer, no I don't think it would matter in my case at least. I take all the time I need, but try to save some for long games and time trouble. To purposely take longer looking for something would just throw off my rhythm. Some people drive fast and some drive slow.

> I doubt if I ever would achieve "perfect play" no matter how long I took.

Not really, probably the way to draw (perfect result) is very wide, I doubt that you played a losing move, and then David missed the win on this game, so you already achieved perfect play.
Parent - By Schachmatt (****) [us] Date 2012-02-13 02:32
White had some positional advantage out of the opening, as it happened, Black just hung on to draw, which, as you imply, is the best that you can expect with Black.  I did not find a force win variation for White.
Parent - By David Evans (***) [gb] Date 2012-02-13 09:21
I can play both fast and slow but certain postions where forced by both sides in this game moving the game along.Scott played those moves 100% correctly and got a good draw.

White has small chances out of the opening but could not convert them playing slower would have made no diffrence.

moves like 22 g4! where my calls not engine calls so you can only really judge on that and in this game maybe g4 was a little early.
Parent - - By Schachmatt (****) [us] Date 2012-02-12 19:07
gg, liked david's opening edge, then it looks like perfect defense to the end by Scott well done guys
Parent - - By David Evans (***) [gb] Date 2012-02-12 19:27
I was unsure if 22 g4! would work rb3 was playable but i wanted to strike out at the black king sometimes these kind of moves work sometimes they dont quite make the diffrence.
Parent - By Scott (****) Date 2012-02-12 20:01
There were really a lot of surprises, and this game went deep. I had expected 22. Rb3, so 22. g4! again was a surprise. I may not of spent a lot of time on the clock, but I guarantee there were countless hours off the clock spent.
Parent - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-02-12 20:31
congratulations to both players. Scott defended really well, I thought many times during the game that g4 was a killer move.

Nice result.
