It does not count as an official one I think because it is not on the Crittersite, at least it wasn't yet, but Richard Vida has given a link on Talkchess to the Critter version that is participating in Timo Klaustermayer´s tournament. I will just post the link to Richard´s post on Talkchess, that everybody should be able to reach. Only 64 bit SSE and this will be the last update until Komodo MP is out. There is no documentation in the download of what changes but I am sure many people here would like to know about the latest version available, no matter what !

Checked a few positions and have found that at least on one position checked the primary move selection was different.  So, no conclusive data at this stage, although from what I have seen from the few positions I have checked, I believe it is no worse than C1.4 from a chess analysis viewpoint.

Sorry for the confusion...
1.4a was an ad-hoc release primarily for people running engine mathces with "ponder on". (e.g. IPON). Its main feature was a pondering related bugfix - preventing lockups when the opponent made an instant reply. ELO-wise it should be equal to vanilla 1.4.

Thanks for the clarification Richard. Great engine I like it! C1.4 I'm talking about. Thanks.

If I can work out how to send you the position {I only checked 5 so small sample!} where 1.4a assesses things slightly differently to 1.4 resulting in a different move selection I will - perhaps you would expect some positions to now have different results due to the changes you made?

I only use chess engines to analyse positions so I only use infinite analysis so when I say 1.4 and 1.4a were different it is with reference to this method of using your engine.

Is this on multicore or single core?

Single core Uly - I only use single core.

Difference occurs after about 3mins.

I went to the download site and tried to download a couple of times, just would not work for me.

I just downloaded a copy, so it should work. I will attach a copy to this post.

Thank you for that.

There are probably some differences because Richard said he is experimenting with code that can handle closed positions, and one change he mentions on Talkchess, in the thread I linked to above, mentions (in a quote by Jesús Muñoz from Richard's first post about the update on the Russian forum), such a position, and some other small differences in the code. Any such a change means a program will have differences in the trees it searches and can affect the final choice of move.

Good job Richard, look forward for an update.  Can you give any information on what areas you are working on to improve Critter?
