Following discussions with Dadi, games will start Saturday February 4 10am GMT. This is 9 hours later than previously advertised, but considering it is the first two games, better to start when Dadi is available in case there are any issues.

I hope everyone enjoys their games. Let the tournament begin.

Aw, I had hoped to get a pairing against you since it may be the only chance to play you in case we get more players to join and go even, or something, but I like very much my pairings (a new opponent and my Muzio Gambit matches with deka are legendary).

Good luck everyone!

Parent - - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-02-02 20:52

Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-02 21:10

Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-03 01:10
Parent - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-02-03 01:47
Yes
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-03 06:55

Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-03 17:56
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-04 01:39
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-05 03:11
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-05 08:28
Parent - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-06 09:10

Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2012-02-03 01:23
Hola.
Preguntale a Dadi, él te podrá informar bien cómo funciona.

answer me one question,if one person doesnt know speak english AND havent acces to a computer (for example,is logged with his Nokia),so hi cant have acces to Google translator, and only speak(just an example),spanish, where is the problem that he ask DIRECTLY to other spanish guy a question,eh?

is the same if you cant acces to a translator, you only know hindi, and you see here an indian guy, where is the problem that you ask him a question in hindi?

so shut up

Translated into Spanish by Google and posted on my Nokia phone.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-06 09:26
well, was just an example...i mean if someone cant acces to a translator,or more simply, want ask a question directly to another person in other language,to be answered by that other oerson AND NOT by the forum, why he cant use another language different from english?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-06 10:01
Well, I see one point:

If the guy goes and uses a translator, to post in english, only he has to do the job. If he posts in spanish, all the people that want to read his message that don't speak spanish have to go and do the job. So posting the message directly in english is a courtesy for everyone wanting to read the message, specially when the guy can type in english without a translator.
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-06 10:09
so is forbbiden to have a conversation here, just an example, between you and me in spanish,if we speak a better spanish than english?

> ,if we speak a better spanish than english

I think my English is as good as my Spanish, or better, since it's much easier to type. In Spanish, I never know if some word uses v or b, or c or s, if I'm messing up a y intead of a ll, or have missed a h, or where the accent goes, so it's frustrating knowing I might be spelling bad some word.

My spoken Spanish is much better, of course (actually, I don't speak English), but we're not speaking, we're texting, and in text, I think English is the way to go. I do care a lot about orthography and English is way easier in this regard than my natural language.

> I do care a lot about orthography and English is way easier in this regard that my natural language.

Heh.
Parent - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-06 10:31
I think that was a grammatical mistake, in this regard English doesn't have that edge.

The fight is not about what words to use, but how to write them once they've been chosen, that's just a terrible block in the way of communication in Spanish, and I'm not the only one, my mother only participates in Spanish talking fora, and on a regular basis asks me with what letter a word should be written, or in the case of a word like "Reflexión", whether is that way or with a cc instead of x, Spanish just has messy, arbitrary, unnecessary rules.

The proof is in the pudding, every time I try to speak in spanish with Rubén Comes (another natural) he ends correcting me on how I type my words (which is different from corrections about which words are typed.)
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2012-02-06 10:29
Uly,that is yur problem, because seems that you dont read so much spanish literature...if you read, you dont make typos,be sure
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-06 10:38
My mother is a big reader, we have the house full of books, and she has read them all. Yet she still has similar problems being unsure of how a word must be typed. You may be sure of how to type the words, but you still commit mistakes, here are some recent ones:

apreciacion instead of apreciación
ningun instead of ningún
tenia instead of tenía
ponia instead of ponía
razon instead of razón

You may be happy writing your Spanish with such mistakes, but I'm not and avoiding them is hard (you read a lot of Spanish literature and still make them...)

If the conversation is of interest to other people, it would make sense to hold it in English. If it isn't, it would make sense to send PMs.

But if it's interesting to Spanish-speaking people in general and uninteresting to most everyone else, you could add a short note in English to that effect. Or if the translator does a poor job and it would take unreasonable effort to correct it.

Or a Spanish subforum could be added, like they have for the German language.
