Total cost for cooling system is $492.95.
Quite expensive I'd say....

I should have pointed out that the 90 degree fittings are ordered for a friend minus that - But I did order the best components I could have gotten away with ties instead of compression fittings and someone else could have made an alternative less expensive choice in a radiator.
When considering customized water cooling -(minus the car radiator for cutting costs etc). The upgrade from an i7 930 and passive air to water cooling and an i7 x3930K mobo ASUS Sabertooth x79 TUF , has a cost overrun of $68 over the planned $1500 intended. The mobo & chip being $960 free shipping and $160 for memory (again here the more expensive choice) $1568. I tried to think a bit a head in my choices of pump and radiator. They should be able to handle anything I throw at it down the road.
Never the less, this system should worth every penny spent at it....

Got the chip and the board is on its way. I hope I haven't made mistake on buying too hot a ram- CMP16GX3M4X1866C9- I am thinking of cooling them with Kingston HyperX KHX-FAN Fans -if I can fit them into the case. The cooling system is setup. Had nothing to do for weeks but run it -never had a leak. Sidewinder replaced the Heatkiller 3.0 baseplate.
First casualty -sent back for RMA!
Heatkiller Rev 3.0 Sockets 1366/2011 CPU-. "It looks like they changed their cutting tool in the middle of cutting this baseplate."

Temps on finished completion of Water Cooling project.
Stock Cooling Temps idle and load Temps-
(continue to study the best way to overclock this chip-later for that.). Very pleased with water cooling.

I believe you are going to OC higher in view of the temps right ?
What is the kn/s you have using Houdini 2 ?

I haven't overclocked at all yet. It is running stock speed. I just got this thing up and running yesterday. The thermal compound hasn't gotten more than 14 hours of time to break in so far. I do believe it is important to lay low for at least a week before heating things up which will also give me time to research the most efficient method of overclocking this chip.
I have a variable speed on the pump and have had it on the lowest speed. I'm not convinced that running it on the fifth speed will have any real effect on lowering the temps -it would seem that all I would be doing is moving warm water around the system fast.
If anyone has any thoughts on that I'd be glad to hear them.

ok, let me know once you start OC what results you achieve using Houdini.
What motherboard do you use ?
By the way, do you speak french ?

Well, I wanted to see what kN/s I would get at stock speeds - I didn't see anything going beyond 15000 thus far-
what is the GHz of the 6 cores at stock speed ?
EDIT : I believe the i7 3930k is at 3.6 GHz at stock speed.
Thus at 5 GHz, you should have about 22'000 kn/s

If you note the Core Temp pic's the chip is throttling between 1400 and 3800 when at a full load without overclocking. I believe the only thing I disabled in the bios is intel speedstep and that might be boosting the core speed.
Later I will enable speedstep and see what the difference is .
Okay , I shut down and went into the bios and found that the Speedsteping was in fact enabled - and - somehow I enabled Turbo mode...Which might explain running at 3800.
Here is what I'm getting now with Turbo disabled. This is now what I'm getting. ( This is going to take some research to get this right.).

Hi Arriere Pensee. What was your final stable O/C on the 3930K?
It looks like the 3930K is better for chess than the current Ivy Bridge, so I was wondering what O/C I could expect to achieve on water from the 3930K.
I thought I read on this board that 4.8 GHz was a reasonable expectation on water for the i7 3930K.

I'm still working at finding an o/c beyond 4.8 - as you stated seems to be the ONLY reasonable limit so far. Temps don't seem to be an issue even at 9.44 MHz. But oddly I get a warning message popping up that the MOBO is at 80c when all my temp readings report otherwise then comes the crash and I have The Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor disabled. What never works, however, is the touted Thermal Radar!
So you have a stable 4.8 Ghz O/C? That sounds quite good, especially with 6 cores working for you in IDeA.
I doubt one can do better with the Core i7-3770K on water.
You didn't mean "9.44 Ghz", did you?

So far after 14hrs of prime95 torture testing(blend) no errors. I'm going for the full 24hrs of testing. I seriously doubt you can come close to getting those stat's with corsairs H-100 at 4.8 GHz! I will go the full 24hrs and see if any errors rear their ugly head...
Arriere Pensee, you are undoubtedly right that a hand-assembled cooling system beats any pre-built system like the Corsair H-100. But is there any possibility that a computer shop guy can do what you and Phil do with a hand-assembled cooling system?
BTW, why didn't you simply return your Corsair H100 to get one that works?

I just cannot bring myself to trust the Corsair after seeing one fail to trust it. I don't believe with the Corsair you can get the same expansive results in O/C capability. That is my impression. like I posted- I don't think you can get the same kind of stat's with the Corsair H100 as you can with a custom build. However, I might be wrong and would certainly stand corrected - I would love to see someone show me their temps and o/c core v properties produced with the H100 at 4.8 MHz. and match them against what I've presented. Then I would also be a believer-maybe even trust the Corsair's build quality.
(most core voltage I've seen at 4.7 MHz using Corsair H100 has been around 1.54 with temps averaging around 80-90c during prime95 torture testing.)

hehe it is a funny typo :-)

Also, given the Turbo is now off - the average kN/s I'm getting now seems to be in the 13000's- or above...

Only at my peril!
Gain real KN \ s
example configuration e5-2687w 36000 kn \ s
or dual xeon socket \ 1366
None of these machines has never had + elo rating than machines from 18,000 \ 20,000 kn \ s
site playchess have about the same score
how do you explain?
