As for me, I don't play for the money, I play for having a good time, so in case I win a prize for WBCCC II, I'll donate it back for the next WBCCC.
Having a money prize or a trophy (which in my case is really what I would like not to miss) is just another grain to make the tournament event better as many other interesting tournaments do have. I really prefer that rules are the same for everyone and the winner may decide to do with money whatever he/she(x) wants.
On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with entry fees to add to mecenas support. At the end, exchanging money for fun is (normally) a healthy practice.

I think this is a good time as any for taking back this comment. I've seen many people that don't need the money, and can just send it back to the pool as if it was nothing, but I'm not that kind of person. I still want to stand in that I'm not playing for the money, I would play the same if there were no prizes, but with people returning their prizes, that's money that will never be used because it'll keep being returned, which is some kind of waste.
I think the people offering the prizes are very generous, and I wouldn't want to reject their generosity, so I've decided to accept my prize, if any.

Surely not taking the prize means you become one of the generous people offering a prize for the next tournamet?
however i will put up $500 whether there are entry fees or not,i will leave it to others to decide how prize money is worked out.
hope this is not to much of a disapointment to anyone.
sorry Paul.
for a yank your grammar is terrible. It should read Garvin and i will do the rest.
I hate having to talk on net. If you ever met me, I speak much better English. Pretty bad when that is my 1st and only language.
>Infinity Chess Pays Prizes the day a tour is Over!
it was a good tournament, i was paid after 2 years when i requested it
i wish they make more tournaments like that
I think this time we can give a bye to Jimmy. Also I would agree in the future if prizes are not guareented then an enty fee is needed.
> I think this time we can give a bye to Jimmy.
Of course, but an explanation is needed, though.
> Also I would agree in the future if prizes are not guareented then an enty fee is needed.
+1

I liked this solution the best:
If you want to play for a money prize, you pay an entry fee. If you don't want the prizes, then you can enter for free.
If a person withdraws, goes awol or any other circumstance that means they do not complete the tournament, then the bond goes into the rest of the entry fees and is returned as prizes.
+ 1
>Everyone pays an upfront payment, then if they complete all their games, they get their bond back.
yes it is good way to discourage quitters. maybe make it more stricter that is, if they lose more than 50% of their games, they don't get their bond back so only serious players will join.
What do you think of the "Fee for Prizes" idea?
unfortunately, i might not play in next tourney. i simply have more important games to play. unless i can see some more value to it and maybe when the tournament is much more stable and promised prizes are guaranteed.
I asked donkasand a few hours ago whether he received a pm of TheHug or even his WBCCC-prize money, and the whole first Balabachi-thread was "accidentally" edited/deleted (=censored), so seems it is/was just a hoax...
Apologizes or personal explanations would be appreciated, though.
What we all might lose is our chance for payback on some players and the chance to redeem ourselves. IMHO no entry fee is needed, no prize money is needed, just some strong chessplayers to see who is the best at CC Blitz in the year 2012.
> I wonder if it's possible that you prize winners could settle this privately through PM's. I feel all of this has already hurt the chances of even having a WBCCC 2. That would be a shame. Just for a second lets think, a few people may have lost a few dollars, money comes and goes. But what you DID WIN Jose was the respect of all your peers here at the forum for the fantastic chess you played, that will last forever. That goes for all the top finishers.
Yes, you are right. I will not post publicly about this issue from now on. But it is also understandable to claim for an explanation and apologize, it is as simple as that. No matter if real reasons are obvious or not.
Indeed your concern over revenge is even more suspect. Who cares about revenge in a game? It is a game.
i will hold the money.
so no worry about payout.
Unless of course i fall off my perch.
we now have $600 prize money.
