Please help me ...

there must be some ugly bugs in the newest Version of Aquarium 2011 (Build 490).

After some hours of IDeA-Analysis it suddenly crahses with some access violations (in some memory).
Unfortunately all my calculated IDeA-Tree seem to be destroyed now .... after re-start of Aquarium "illegal disk adress" is displayed ... what's that?

How can I restore all my correspondance-trees now? I need them very urgent.

Please help!

Best Regards,
Eskimo

This is nonsense - I have been using IDeA  in this version of Aquarium since it was first released and I have NEVER had a crash!
The problem must lie with your system.

I have crashes on one machine and not on another... the machine that crashes happily runs infinite analysis for 24 hours+ all 4 thread various engines, Intel burn In test, Prime etc. There do seem to be problems with some setups???

often crashes maybe a symptom of your antivirus program. Since idea writes continuously to the hard disk and the antivirus checks, if the later is not smart enough it can cause problems

Look at your backup folder. Aquarium takes backup often.

Also you can IMPORT those results (you can find them in {aquarium_data}\idea\results\{project_name}.epd , and import using the "add results command, which is found under the "manage" hyperlink

thank you - this is a very much more helpful answer than the first one!

Meanwhile I could restore one of the trees due to a BackUp I had on an external disk.

ok, my system is nearly 3 years old.
a 4-core i7-920 with 2,66 MHz and 8 threads
6 GB Ram, Windows 7 64Bit professional
Enough space on hard disk (more than 200GB)
no special anti-virus-program (only microsoft security essentials)

not the worst system, I think ....

Sometimes some of my engines crash (I use Houdini 1.5a) or e.g. the brandnew Critter 1.4
Sometimes, when the trees are getting very big, aquarium crashes itself (always with some access violations!!)
And sometimes it runs 4 daysor even more without any problems .... so what should be wrong with my system or with aquarium?
and ... IF it crashes (what shouldn't do any matter, in general) ... it should NOT destroy my trees, because they are of course the most important
things of all that analysis!

So I wonder where the problem is and if you have similar problems ...

I dealt with large trees a lot, and I think last time I checked the max tree size was 400 000+ positions before reaching any crash. So I had learned to keep my trees smaller than 400 000 positions per tree. What were your tree sizes?

oh - no, I think my trees are not as large as yours ...

sometimes Houdini will crash and leave Aquarium hungup!

I was getting those messages for a time also, but then I figured that my harddrive was full and that I had little empty space left.

Oh dear ... now I got some more crashes :-(
I had to close Aquarium on a rough way (it didn't quit correct) and now all menus, icons and graphics seem to be destroyed.
First it didn't want to start (--> I/O ERROR 32).

I will now try to re-install it .... that seems to be the best solution in my opinion.

But I still think, that Aquarium is no proper and professional software ... too buggy altogether .... that's really a pity
because its features are great

Check the condition of your hard disk.

I use Aquarium with  many computers, and no crashes what so ever.

yeah, there might be a problem ....  I spend nearly the wohle night (until 4:30am) to re-install Aquarium 2011 completly new ... transfering all my trees and engines ...
All Engine-Data was lost... but the idea-config-parameters were correctly transferred - thank goodness!

Weird: the tabs, graphics, icons, menuitems, windows had been completly arranged different and aquarium wasn't handable at all ... very strange .. I suppose, during the crash or the sudden
end, it wasn't able to save and close all open configs and saved a wrong desktop configuration. I didn't know - of course - where to find these important files on disk, so I tried the
new installation in a fresh folder.
But I never got a software, which was so "confused" after and I/O Error .... and ... as an software developer on myself ... I know what I am talking about - beleive me: Aquarium
is sort of strange ....

anybody from the convecta-company or the developing-team around here in this forum??

You can try sending your probllem here info@chessok.com
or look around on this page http://chessok.com/?page_id=80 It's help and support at ChessOK

ah ok .. thanks ... I thought, THIS is the official support forum.

another bug: the new feature "export to master tree from all projects" freezes sometimes.
"Step 1: minimax" and nothing happens anymore ... you have to kill the aquarium-process and restart the whole program.
I suppose, this happens if one of the project-trees is corrupt (as mines), so be careful while using this function!

This is the official forum, but Russia is on official holiday mr. Eskimo. They probably cannot answer now.
Parent - By ChessMonster (***) Date 2012-01-08 01:25
And I agree with you that corrupt trees might give unexpected behavior and require the killing of the processes.

Have you tried deleting the "Infinite Analysis Trees"? Or you can try using the tree utility to check all trees, but this is a time consuming job.

It's not that hard if you use the script I posted a while ago.

Meanwhile I have been in contact with the russion development team itsself.
After the new-installation the program seems to run stable.
But I still hope they improve some things (handling open/locked files under windows)
with the next update.

I still get a freeze up now and again, with the old normal "Aquarium has stopped responding", so it is still far from working 100% so my question is when will be seeing another update?
