On my 12GB machine (Vista Ultimate) I can't set it to more than 3GB (both with / without large pages).
When I run it with 4GB it defaults to 3GB in the log.
Is that something with my setup, or is 3GB the limit?
Thanks.

It's 8 GB, but 32 bit Fritz GUIs think, they can't use more than a total of 4GB.
In the 64 bit version of Fritz GUI that came with Zap! Chess, you can use more.

Thanks! That was something I had no clue about ;)
I have the Fritz11/Rybka3 GUI I bought from chessbase a long while ago.
No matter what I do it only allows 3GB of Hash to be set.
I understand from your post there's a 64bit GUI version available for purchase from somewhere, and in it that limit is gone?
I have no clue what Zap! chess is but I'll google it up. Any more explanations are welcome :)
Btw - did you see any measurable performance improvement with say 6GB of ram (with huge-pages) vs. say just 512mb ram (with huge-pages) for short time-controls?
As there's no visibility to how much of the hash is utilized, I don't know if at all to worry about this :)

ZAP!CHESS was the predecessor of Zappa.
It has a very old version of the Fritz GUI, as far as I know the only 64 bit GUI by Chessbase.
I can't find it anywhere in the UK - here's a German ebay link:

I have a friend, using Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) who has exacly the same problem.
What can be done (without getting the 64-bit Zap!Chess GUI)?
(Sorry, I asked the same question to Vempele in the ...Aquarium sub-forum!
)
You can make a rybka.config file like described in this thread: http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=21109
Thanks Lukas.
You mean that using the rybka.config file, where Hash Size (Mb) : 4096
will override the Fritz11/Rybka3 GUI 3GHz limitation?

Exactly yes.
Lukas is it also possible to use the config file for other parameters like TB path, Piece value and the like...
If so an example would be much appreciated

It is possible for some parameters.
Here's an example:

Thanks Lukas, much appreciated
There's a thread about it Kevin, http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=21109
Thanks for link, but its mainly about the Visualizer settings and I wanted to know more about what parameters you could use in the Rybka config file
