Ive never seen a Prize Tour where it takes 3 months for players to recieve there Winnings. Infinity Chess Pays Prizes the day a tour is Over! How can I start a new Tour when the last ones Terms have not been fulfilled?

How many prize tournaments have you played without paying an entry fee and without any commercial sponsors?
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 01:56
there is or was prize money available,it's just i am unsure what happended to it.
Parent - - By Loboestepario (****) [us] Date 2012-01-04 02:03
Jimmy was going to pay the prizes out of his own pocket as far as i know
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 02:06
not so,he had sponsors who let him down.
Parent - - By Loboestepario (****) [us] Date 2012-01-04 02:12
That's unfortunate
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 02:19
its what you call fair weather friends.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 02:10
when his sponsors let him down.i tried to help.i dont wish to say anything more for a couple of days.
Parent - - By Loboestepario (****) [us] Date 2012-01-04 02:16
Another option is to ask the players for an entry fee and split all funds collected amongst the prize winners. I bet very few would volunteer to pay if they already know they didn't win anything
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 02:24
i dont wish any entry fees and am prepared to put up some prize money myself.i will start with $1000.
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 02:33
if anyone matches it,i will up by 50%,i am not rich.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-01-04 12:28
Many thanks for your support Paul

As for me, I don't play for the money, I play for having a good time, so in case I win a prize for WBCCC II, I'll donate it back for the next WBCCC.
Parent - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-01-04 13:35
Well, I think no one here is really playing for the money, in such a case no one would have waited so many time after the tournament finished back in november (in my case). At least this is my case, I am not a professional chess player and, fortunately, I still can play just for a hobby. Needless to say that huge invested time, hardware and software costs, even electricity bills, are not paid at all with this prize money, but with the enjoy and fun playing a tournament of such a high level.

Having a money prize or a trophy (which in my case is really what I would like not to miss) is just another grain to make the tournament event better as many other interesting tournaments do have. I really prefer that rules are the same for everyone and the winner may decide to do with money whatever he/she(x) wants.

On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with entry fees to add to mecenas support. At the end, exchanging money for fun is (normally) a healthy practice.

I think this is a good time as any for taking back this comment. I've seen many people that don't need the money, and can just send it back to the pool as if it was nothing, but I'm not that kind of person. I still want to stand in that I'm not playing for the money, I would play the same if there were no prizes, but with people returning their prizes, that's money that will never be used because it'll keep being returned, which is some kind of waste.

I think the people offering the prizes are very generous, and I wouldn't want to reject their generosity, so I've decided to accept my prize, if any.

Surely not taking the prize means you become one of the generous people offering a prize for the next tournamet?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-02-29 03:34
I'd like to think I'm generous enough by offering all my graphic designs for free, though, I'm also considering starting a donation page so people that can, are able to help me out if they want.

You offer lots of good stuff Uly. You made me a Seahawks fan,

I would support that idea. It is fair.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 22:33
I have had a rethink about this.i got a bit carried away last night,i had a lot on my mind.

however i will put up $500 whether there are entry fees or not,i will leave it to others to decide how prize money is worked out.

hope this is not to much of a disapointment to anyone.

sorry Paul.

As long as you can as a banker or treasurer that works for me. Me and Garvin can do the rest.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 22:57 Edited 2012-01-04 23:00
no prob.

Well I'm glad a brit can keep me in line. I hate having to talk on net. If you ever met me, I speak much better English. Pretty bad when that is my 1st and only language.

great to see your back on the ball Jimmy.

it was a good tournament, i was paid after 2 years when i requested it  i wish they make more tournaments like that
- - By Balabachi (*) [us] Date 2012-01-04 04:08 Edited 2012-01-04 04:14
Well, I do feel bad for him if his backers backed out on him. And I would never want him to have to pay out off pocket! I think we can all forgive and put it behind us. I will for certain!
I think this time we can give a bye to Jimmy. Also I would agree in the future if prizes are not guareented then an enty fee is needed.
Parent - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-01-04 08:48

Of course, but an explanation is needed, though.

I liked this solution the best:

If you want to play for a money prize, you pay an entry fee. If you don't want the prizes, then you can enter for free.
Parent - By Mark Eldridge (****) [gb] Date 2012-01-04 13:46
I agree money prizes must have an entry fee. Toi be honest i don't care about money prizes i just want to play Chess against the best and try to win.
- - By Garvin Gray (****) Date 2012-01-04 14:40
Just to re-iterate a point I made before the start of WBCCC 2011. It is my positon that there should be an entry fee and perhaps some kind of bond system. Everyone pays an upfront payment, then if they complete all their games, they get their bond back.

If a person withdraws, goes awol or any other circumstance that means they do not complete the tournament, then the bond goes into the rest of the entry fees and is returned as prizes.
Parent - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-01-04 20:59
This system sounds fair to me.

+ 1
Parent - By Scott (****) Date 2012-01-04 21:20
I don't like the entry fee idea, better would be the honor system. Then if somebody drops out (which would be far less now that tour is established) then ban them from entering for a year or two or something like that.
Parent - By jitan (*) [a1] Date 2012-01-05 11:09

>Everyone pays an upfront payment, then if they complete all their games, they get their bond back.

yes it is good way to discourage quitters. maybe make it more stricter that is, if they lose more than 50% of their games, they don't get their bond back so only serious players will join.
Parent - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-01-05 15:37
We didn't have many quitters on the first one, so that's not a problem to be worried about and make such a radical change. I'd have expected a lot less participation on WBCCC 1 if there were bonds.

What do you think of the "Fee for Prizes" idea?
- - By jitan (*) [a1] Date 2012-01-05 11:05
hi, i have been away for a while here and also been promised of some prize but still waiting and would be nice if there is a specific date also.
unfortunately, i might not play in next tourney. i simply have more important games to play. unless i can see some more value to it and maybe when the tournament is much more stable and promised prizes are guaranteed.
Parent - - By Turbo (***) Date 2012-01-05 12:05
Sadly, I doubt that you will get an answer here.
I asked donkasand a few hours ago whether he received a pm of TheHug or even his WBCCC-prize money, and the whole first Balabachi-thread was "accidentally" edited/deleted (=censored), so seems it is/was just a hoax...
Parent - - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2012-01-05 14:24
I think no one has received pm or prize money.

Apologizes or personal explanations would be appreciated, though.
Parent - - By parmetd (***) Date 2012-01-05 21:27
I would like an explanation on what happened to the prizes / sponsors or whatever. I feel we deserve that much.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2012-01-05 21:32
Isn't it obvious? They said they would pay the prizes, then they said they wouldn't.
Parent - By parmetd (***) Date 2012-01-05 22:18
Yes but it would bring back alot of credibility if they explained it durrrrrrrr duh
Parent - - By Scott (****) Date 2012-01-05 22:00 Edited 2012-01-05 22:03
I wonder if it's possible that you prize winners could settle this privately through PM's. I feel all of this has already hurt the chances of even having a WBCCC 2. That would be a shame. Just for a second lets think, a few people may have lost a few dollars, money comes and goes. But what you DID WIN Jose was the respect of all your peers here at the forum for the fantastic chess you played, that will last forever. That goes for all the top finishers.

What we all might lose is our chance for payback on some players and the chance to redeem ourselves. IMHO no entry fee is needed, no prize money is needed, just some strong chessplayers to see who is the best at CC Blitz in the year 2012.

Yes, you are right. I will not post publicly about this issue from now on. But it is also understandable to claim for an explanation and apologize, it is as simple as that. No matter if real reasons are obvious or not.
Parent - By parmetd (***) Date 2012-01-05 22:19
My concern is not with getting paid (indeed I never cared about the money when I entered). My concern is with the credibility that is lost by this fiasco not being explained.

Indeed your concern over revenge is even more suspect. Who cares about revenge in a game? It is a game.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2012-01-05 22:22 Edited 2012-01-05 22:25
well i have put up 500 bucks for 2012,so you will at least have this nominal sum to play for.

i will hold the money.

so no worry about payout.

Unless of course i fall off my perch.
