Here is a position from my older corr. chess game

4rrk1/p2q1pp1/2pbb3/1p4P1/3P3Q/1BP2R2/P7/R1B3K1 w - - 0 23

Can your engines find an extraordinary move, which leads to a big advantage? :fat:

Is this the right position? In your game one rook stands on a8 (black to move) and black took 22...Bxb3

r4rk1/p2q1pp1/2pbb3/1p4P1/3P3Q/1BP2R2/P7/R1B3K1 b - - 0 22

The question is, why i didn't play 22...Rae8?

Is it not crazy what the computers can teach us? Taking on b3, instead of a3! I still can only find it when using multi PV. Maybe it is Zugzwang. Not sure though. So how does Houdini avoid Zugzwang? Strelka is just Houdini here without the obfuscated output so that doesn't count, sorry Yuri. Unless you can prove it is doing things really different. Houdini's eval is too low apparently that is what Strelka shows us. But, how to avoid the Zugzwang! In multi PV it was found quickly, here is 23 plies deep the first thirteen moves:

Build 89 now, and it is not wrong but I can't just do the first thirteen moves in Multi PV all the time :fat: That is way too costly... What is the magic trick that Houdini is using here  As I said to Jimmy, I feel we are so close to some breakthrough and yet it eludes us...
Parent - By Eelco de Groot (***) Date 2011-11-27 02:34
Happy to say, that I now have at least found a way to solve the position, without the above method resorting to Multi PV of thirteen moves . The basic problem is with the nullmove searches which are very selective for Rainbow Serpent, with more futility pruning allowed near the root than in Stockfish; Stockfish can have futility pruning in the last 7 plies, Rainbow Serpent in the last 24 plies, with basically the same sort of rule, this involves a risk. When these nullwindow searches are getting too long and they still have not found the right sequence, and they always overlook some things especially if it involves multiple pieces temporarily left en prise, but there is the chance they won't find it ever anymore. I had to go back to a less selective mechanism for this and the solution time is not very competetive with Zappa on a fast rig, but without it the nullwindow search would not find this even after ten hours or so... That is not very close to being usable. Part of that is changed by taking, in retrospect, the Rebel approach actually, where some of the older Rebels actually had a fixed number of plies without much selectivity before becoming very selective in the last plies near the horizon. This approach makes any results at bullet chess/testing tank I suppose, but that is not my main concern right now, engine is not meant for playing Blitz. It must be possible to do some optimizing but if you don't find the requested move even after hours of searching then my method of optimizing is a bit helpless :slim:

Like I said, no big advantage, on the contrary,

After 22...Rae8, start with your PV endposition:

Analysis by Houdini 6.02 Pro x64-pext: 3 cores, depth 39, 8Gb Hash

1. +/- (0.90): 32.Rg3 Rf5 33.Kg2 Kf7 34.Ra6 g6 35.b4 Rc7 36.Kh3 Re7 37.Rc6 Kg7 38.Rc8 Kf7 39.Rc5 Re1 40.Rc7+ Re7 41.Rxe7+ Kxe7 42.Kg4 Rf1 43.Rh3 Ke6 44.Rh6 Rg1+

White has an small advantage of +0.90 according to H6

Now after 22...Bxb3

22...Bxb3 ist more badly as ...Rae8, gives much bigger adv. to white, so ...Rae8 isn't any worse as claimed by you.

I am ready But y u r tempted ?
Parent - - By Barnard (Bronze) Date 2011-11-20 02:43
i told 'im tempted' because im runing 4 games here, and more games at LSS,and all the games just with a old dual core...if i start mre chess games,i wont be able to play a good chess, that is why im 'tempted',but i think is more reasonable to wait until i finish some of my games
