Looks like I did not wait long enough before upgrading to 482
Any further info on
'Improved functionality for viewing and editing EPD databases'
Thanks

More fields are included and you can edit the contents of the fields in the Game Header view.
Thanks... I will probably give it a couple of weeks, and if no serious bugs have been found upgrade - I am liking 482 so far.

Victor, what are the improvements over Build 482?
Thanks, CMA
Thanks, CMA
Mostly improved usability and improvements to opening books.
IDeA
Improvements to 'Send Positions to IDeA'. When you select a project, the filter tree is automatically set to the project tree. Experience had shown that the project tree is almost always selected as a filter tree by users.
'Send Game to Sandbox' from the IDeA notation window automatically links the game to the project.
'IDeA settings' are now displayed in the Stage Status window of linked games.
Minimum height of Stage Status window decreased in linked games.
Opening Books
Tree groups respect Custom colors settings.
Tree groups delimited with vertical lines in the tree window.
"=" sign is displayed before manually specified percentage value.
Changes to opening book formulas
New versions of AquariumBookAdapter and ABAGui are included with Aquarium (and stored in the Aquarium folder). Note that the data files used by the book adapter should be copied to a special folder (If you keep them in the Aquarium data folder, then you can't run the book adapter and Aquarium at the same time).
Various
After the update to build 490, Aquarium.exe will be the same for Houdini Aquarium and Rybka Aquarium 2011

If we don't use the filter tree, whatever that is, does this improvement have any affect on users?

If you don't want to use a filter tree, now you must clear the 'Filter tree' field (it was empty in the previous version).
If you don't use a filter tree, all the positions you send to IDeA will be analyzed; even those which are already in your project tree. Normally that's a waste of time.
If you specify the project tree as a filter tree, Aquarium filters out previously analyzed positions. The remaining positions are sent to your IDeA project for analysis. This is what users want in most cases.
The most common use of this feature is to search a big database for the position you are analyzing (assuming it's a known opening position). Then you send a few moves from all the games (starting from the search position) to your IDeA project. In this way you can quickly analyze all variations which have occurred in played games (of course Aquarium removes duplicate positions automatically so each position is only analyzed once). It's a great way to populate your IDeA tree.

Filter Tree sounds like a useful feature. However, when I click on Analysis/Link/, the only box to check or uncheck is "Link the IDeA Project to the game."
I do not see any "Filter Tree" check box.

I have no idea why you expected to see a filter tree there.
Maybe you should start by reading Sending Games and Position to IDeA.

Dadi, I had read your article. I misinterpreted your comment "When you select a project, the filter tree is automatically set to the project tree." I assumed that there was now a checkbox to accomplish that.
Will there be a link on this forum to the recently updated version of Houdini version 2.0c ?
Hello,
I use Deep Rybka Aquarium and I am having a problem when I try to get the engines to compete against one another. It seems when they get to their 12th -13th moves I get White out of book as well as black out of book and no more moves are made. The time just click down and a new game starts. What is this White out of book error I am getting.
Also I installed Houdini 1.5 into the gui but was wondering how can i get to use the Gaviota EGTB Files? Thank for any help

Sounds like the engines you are trying to use aren't starting. Check engines>verify that they are ok.
