I did asked couple of GM's (above 2600) about possible outcome of such a handicap match. They all said it is about even... According to them Rybka will be in favour having "a2" and "h2" pawn less, but with rest of the pawn handicap human chances to win are according to them higher.
And what is your opinion?
And what is your opinion?
I voted 2:6 or better for Rybka.
1) No chance Ehlvest is going to win a game.
2) It only takes 4 blunders to lose 2:6.
Of course, Ehlvest may be able to stear the games into very calm or clear waters, and if he can manage a better score than 2:6, I will congratulate on a job well done.
Actually, I quite like this pawn-odds format. We may get to know how strong humans are when they have a clear edge. Can they nurture it safely all the way to a draw, or even a win? Can they use it to dictate a position to their likening?
It is also interesting because one potential weakness of Rybka vs. Humans is that sometimes Rybka is a little too careless about "sacrificing" a pawn in the opening. Now we will see just how severe the consequences of that happening would be.

I think it's going to be quite interesting.
On paper, Ehlvest is a slight underdog. If you replace him with Fritz 10, Rybka would be only a slight underdog. We know this because Larry has run many such games.
However, humans are more flexible than engines, and probably stronger in unusual circumstances. Ehlvest can train at home. Presumably he's convinced himself that the chances of a win in the match are reasonable.

Was a hand error ???????
Hello, I'm new here, but I'd like to share my opinions about this match.
So, I think Jaan has absolute no chance at all. Nothing. Do you even realize the QX6700's potential? If not, here is the chance, but I think everybody can imagine that...
Why so?
Because this processor is the strongest that ever built! It has 4 cores, able to run much faster the applications especially, if these apps are optimized for this processor, and unless I'm mistaken, Rybka is better (stronger) on these machines, 'cos it has a multi-processor version too.
So, if Rybka will so large and let Jaan to make a draw, we will see draw matches, otherwise she will tamp Jaan into the floor.
Why am I say this? I based my words upon Rybka's performance and if this engine is as good as it seems, no one will beat her in a face-2-face match, with or without handicaps.
My tip is 6-2 for Rybka.

That is close to my opinion. Rybka is a clear favorite in the two edge pawn games, Ehlvest is favored I think in the f2 game, and the other five are a toss-up.
I voted 4-4.
In my opinion GM Ehlvest should with this conditions hold 4 Points.

This is great to hear! When GM's get involved this will surely bring in sponsors but as you say a prize fund is already established so interest is already formed. In my opinion I hate to make predictions but with even a pawn advantage a human (Even a GM)does not have much of a chance to at least tie the match.I predict a lopsided victory for Rybka of 6.5-1.5

I hope the GM slam dunks Rybka just because most of these fanboys saying that Rybka will do this and that and destroy the GM are rated probably less than 1200, and are clueless about what real winning chances each side has. I notice that on Playchess ALL of the engine fanboys that always talk about letting a human play the engine so that can watch him get crushed have a 1300 or less slow rating. This just tells me that they cannot win games themselves and the pride themselves on seeing someone get beat by a machine calculating at 1000000 n/s or more. It like saying 'yeah i can type a document faster in Word than you can with a typewriter because I have spell check and make instant corrections an other cool features like auto-format' or saying 'i can multiply 25 5-digit numbers faster than you with my calculator while you just use your pen and paper.'
Huh???
Hey Ologist, so you are pulling for the GM. That's good. Just berating 1300 players does not make you an expert. Why not give your prediction so we can see how much you know.
Wow, that's the first post I'll seen from Iweta. I wonder where was she the whole time.
Vas must of had her locked up in the closet. :P

Nah she was just participating in this tournament in case you didn't know.

After that tournament, she probably wished that Vas had locked her in the closet...
She should be a GM now after winning that tourney. Vas should get back into chess too. So he can learn some stuff and than add this "attained chess knowledge" to Rybka.
If you look more closely, you will see she did not win the tournament.
right...
Chess is tough. Actually, Iweta's last 5 GM tournaments before that were even-score or better.

My speculation:
Jaan Ehlvest will win 4.5 : 3.5
I believe, he ist strong enough to reach a drawn in each match, if he wants just this.
And I believe that he is able to win one Game.
