A excellent score, very well done. But can a mere woodpusher ask a question, if you are such a good player how is it that you do not already have an ICCF ranking?
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-08 22:35
Because I am not a good player, only i have lucky...
Parent - - By jammy (***) [gb] Date 2011-04-09 18:38
Anyone who can hold their own against players with grades of 2400-2500+, needs to be more than lucky. It also means you will be getting a high grading now.

I did not have the need to defend myself, luckily.

i dont understand why you object to Nelsons %.when we have piles of games we can all see % ourselves, just because Nelson has collected games from all known sources and some are from weak players.he just reports known %.in one of my games he told me i had something like 85%,i sent pm saying that if opponent played x move it was dead drawn.which it was.Nelson has never said his book is posting best lines, all he is doing is commentating on what moves have been played in the past.i imagine 90% are from blitz games and a great number from engines over 10 year old.just my take on things.
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-09 22:53
I do not object.
Only I think the comment maybe can to be good for players.
For me. is ok.
As you say, I have a super database, and i no have problems. More, I have much games Nelson like to have...
If Nelson say "90 % win black" and I am on white, simple, I look more... ;-)

> I have much games Nelson like to have...

You bet!  So send them over and my stats will be better!

We have already talked about the business, but you suggested things very difficult for my modest understanding.
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-09 23:08
Very simple.

You can be a philanthropist and ask for nothing in return, which would be generous and appreciated.

Or, we can figure out a way to trade it 1:1 in terms of net new games.  But what you expected was a ratio that was potentially much greater than 1:1.  That doesn't work for me.  I've been schooled by the Italian Scallion in these things and have learned to never, never let the other guy get the upper hand, even briefly.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-09 23:11
No agree.
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-14 14:48
I think that someone would be foolish to trade with you. :-)  By trading with you something that would be useful to you and that he already has, he's giving up his one and ONLY potential opening advantage against you.
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-14 21:19
Not true.  The idea in trading is get new games, not duplicates.  If both parties get the same number of new games then it's as fair a deal as you can get.  Consider the difference between someone who has a million games total and gets a million new games, versus someone who has ten million games total and gets a million new games: who has gotten the bigger improvement?  Certainly not the one with more games!  But net improvement isn't the standard: new games is.

Which is why I would never just blindly send 500,000 games to anyone in exchange for 500,000 back, unless I could feel really sure that we were trading SIMILAR games.  He could send me games I already have and wind up with zero net new, while I could be sending him the crown jewels.  So I proposed an elaborate procedure to eliminate all game-types neither side wanted first, then eliminate all duplicate games within both databases following a precise procedure, and then dividing the remainder by chronological grouping and listing how many we both had in each time-group.  Based on that full disclosure (which is really critical) then both sides could negotiate for what they wanted and stop at some mutually-agreeable point.

I was being totally fair.  Ruben explicitly stated that he expected to get a favorable exchange rate, i.e. more than 1:1 new games.  I refused to do that and that is where it stands.  It's fine with me, I don't need to trade.  I generally don't.

You are very complicated.
I have 7,213,569 games...
If yoy have 10 millions, is clear, sure, i will have 2,800,000 new games.
But really, i no need yours games, i can work well with my database. I am not a fanatic collector games, only i am a aficionated chessplayer.
For me is very easy, i send games, and reciproc, i recive games. It is normal with much players in Playchess, without problems.

Understood.  However I know my business.  That is the way it has to be done if it is to be done at all.  It seems to me neither of us are really that interested in trading so it is fine that we be friendly but non-traders.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-14 21:48
"Business"? "Traders"? lol
Build a combo for sale!! lol
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-15 02:38
I know that you're being fair--what I'm saying is that I don't think it would be a good idea to enter into a fair trade with you because the percentage of your advantage that you would lose would be quite small, while the percentage of advantage that the other person would lose would be quite huge.  This person would have games that you wouldn't have...that person's primary opening advantage against you...and then be giving it away.

Yes, that makes sense, except for the fact that my team hasn't played anyone competitively in three years, and there is nothing in sight that would change that.
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-09 22:54

> a great number from engines over 10 year old

Actually there are very few of those.  They represent less than 1% of the database.
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-09 23:02
I use lines played for Capablanca, Tahl, Bogoljubow, etc, and have a little more 10 years...
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2011-04-09 23:09
They are in the database too.  I guess humans can be considered engines of a sort.  Defective ones, usually.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-09 23:10
100 % agree.

Seems to me Ruben you like self promotion why is this. You have posted this link in many forum pages........

1 Are you proud of this joint tour win and feel the need to share it with everyone.

2 Do you feel the need to prove youself to you fellow peers.

3 Do you look to self promotion to boost you confidence.

Iam intrested because iam a beliver in your results will talk for u.

I dont belive in self promotion..

Look yours results vs me.
I think it no talk for you or for me. Sometimes the results is only a number. I think you can to be same or better player, and I can to be weak and to have good results...

Ie ruben wbccc iccf those kind of games and maybe up and coming infinity freestyle tours.

These are the games that count ie real games.........
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2011-04-15 13:17
For me all count...
Corr chess is real chess too.
Freestyle are the games played for you and me? It is real chess for you? 30 min per game or 60 min per game?
Parent - By David Evans (****) [gb] Date 2011-04-15 21:21
Prefer games over 60+15 or longer time frames for freestyle.

Anything goes for corr chess with me.
