I do not know how much the videos can help but I see promises that simply seem to me too good to be truth.
I read the following about the opening course:
"The right way of thinking in the opening, which will allow you to find the best moves in any openings."
I do not expect to play always the best moves in any openings and I believe that even GM's do not find the best moves in any opening.
Finding better moves than the moves that I find without the course is clearly enough for me.
I also read some things that seem to me funny.
Smirnov claims in his emails or in his videos that chess players tell him that they read hundrends of chess books and pretend to know everything about chess and ask why they are not GM's or at least IM's.
I do not know about one chess player that is so arrogant.
personally I am slightly above 2000 and I think that I know almost nothing about chess.
I believe that my board vision is relatively good and I probably can see fast all the captures and the checks but openings and visualization is a clear weakness of me.
I believe that visualization is not something that I can improve and I will never be able to play blindfold but opening is clearly something that I can improve.
The main problem with opening is that there is too much material and I do not know what to learn first so my choice was simply to escape from the main lines that I am afraid that my opponent know better than me and I also do not have a constant opening.
I guess that a videos may be more useful for me than chess books because in order to understand a chess book I need to use a real board and put the pieces on the board.
I have many chess books but in the best case I read only part of them and I certainly do not remember all of what I read.
Maybe videos are something that can help me to get 100-200 elo better but I am skeptic and the main reason is that the advertisement seems to promise too much and I read there about somebody who improved by hundrends of elo only by seeing videos.
The claim that I read in the emails that I got from smirnov is that people who take the course and do not improve simply do not do the tasks in the book and claim that they do not need it when childs follow blindly the coach.
It does not seem to me logical and I expect it to be the opposite.
I believe that childs usually are less ready to do tasks that they do not like for better results relative to adults.
Based on my knowledge a big majority of the childs who play in tournaments quit chess and never become strong players and the childs who really improve are small minority of the childs.
Comparing a small minority of childs to adults who do not improve is simply unfair.
In case that the tasks are something that every adult can do in case of spending 2 hours per day.
I would like to know what are the practical results of adults who took the course and did the tasks(without claiming that they do not need it).
PS: Since I started the Smirnov courses, I feel I am getting alot more out of my Peshka courses, if that makes sense!
It is clearly easier to improve when you are a weak player.
I am interested to know what is your tactical strength based on sites like www.chesstempo.com
It is still interesting for me to know about the improvement for weak players(probably singificant weaker than you because the weakest players usually do not play in chess tournaments and I can beat them even when I start without my queen and my 2 rooks).
I teach adults who know the chess rules who have rating below 1000 in chesstempo and
I wonder if the material that smirnov offers can help them(one of them does not invest significant time about chess and with something like one hour per week in chesstempo you cannot expect a big improvement but another one that I showed her chesstempo some days ago is probably going to use it for more time(and she used the site for more than 10 hours in the last week and has only rating that is slightly above 950 when her main problem is bad board vision when she simply do not see a possible capture or check because at her level the solution is almost always a capture or a checking move).
Assuming that she is going to continue to invest at least 10 hours every week in training
I would like to teach her to improve her chesstempo rating by at least 100 elo every week until she get chesstempo rating of 1500(that is also not a very strong level) and I wonder if smirnov courses can be productive for this task.
I only teach private lessons and at this time I teach only 2 women.
I only taught the second woman(that invest more time on chess tempo) one lesson(she knew the chess rules so I did not need to teach her the chess rules) when I showed her
chess tempo and she started to train there and used chesstempo for more than 10 hours in the last week.
She has no bad words to say about me but I am not happy with her results.
She improved in 2.4 from rating near 910 in the beginning of the day to rating near 970 but failed to improve in the next days and still has a rating near 970 inspite of training every day for average of more than an hour.
I decided to stop solving for standard because there is no time limit in standard and it is clear that I can get high standard rating
thanks to thinking a long time about problems and I do not like to have an average time of 30 minutes for a single problem only in order to try to increase my standard rating.
I also do not like the alternative of using only average time near 5 minutes for chess problems in standard and guess when I find nothing because it means that my rating is going to go down(after I already used average time of clearly more than 5 minutes per problem in order to get the high rating that I have).
1. GM's Secrets: This is a basic course. This discusses a basic thinking methodology any GM/ IM/ FM applies. Many people can find this course too short but this is a foundation only. At your level of FIDE 2000, I do not recommend this course unless you find it useful yourself. This is useful for 1300-1900 FIDE rated players in my view.
2. GM's Opening Laboratory: This course discusses the openings unrefuted at the highest levels. This course is again too basic for a FIDE 2000 player. 1300-1800 FIDE rated players will find it useful as per my view.
3. How to beat titled players: This is the course for you. If you plan to be a GM or an IM in a year or two, and finding difficulty in defeating or drawing with GMs/ IMs, this course will help you immensely. In think 1800 - 2200 players can take full advantage of this course.
4. Your Winning Plan: This is a very good course for middle-game strategy. This can again be very useful for you if you find difficulty in getting the most suited middlegame plan for you after opening.
5. An Endgame Expert: This is the best course by GM Igor Smirnov and the best for Middle to endgame strategy which can be found in my view. However, you need to be conversant with basic endgames to take advantage of this course. All the players in 1500 - 2400 FIDE rating range can find this particular course very useful.
Full advantage of any GM Igor's courses can be taken only after watching his video lectures several times and solving all the exercises too (which I have yet to find time to do). But if you can give 2 hours daily to GM Igor's courses, they can take your ratings to 2300 easily. Being a young man sometimes he makes immature comments but his chess knowledge is no doubt superb.
like most players with rating near 2000
I almost do not play against GM's or IM's.
I will be happy enough if a course can help me to improve my rating to 2200 that is not close to IM level.
I am also interested in teaching chess and I think that the assumption that tactics will be learnt by the player himself is simply a wrong assumption for most people.
I read that he claims that his courses are also for beginners but based on your discription his courses are not for beginners and many beginners simply do not believe that they can even get to the level of 1300.
though they will be revised soon.

We are finding the chess course very good and practical. Thank you, it is excellent. However for some reason it just stopped working this morning. There was a Windows 7 update yesterday. Perhaps it is the blame? I don’t know, but it is very sad…
If you know this man, please let him know that this is a shoddy way to treat customers and makes him look like a fraudster
> I think you should stop advertising these GM Igor Smirnov courses on this forum. I was foolish enough to purchase one for my daughter. It worked for a while then stopped. I politely emailed him to let him know but the email was rejected and returned to me as being abusive. Here is the content of my email, judge for yourself...

This matter has been resolved. It looks like the 'abuse criticism' was automated and so didn't reflect any human's personality. I would delete my previous message if I could but the time for doing so is passed. I cannot fault the actual course material but the interface for using it is very unfriendly and complicated (and prone to be becoming unusable). I would suggest a more user-friendly method of distributing the material. Sorry for the initial bad press.
I totally agree with you. There was some problems with the digital lock which has been fixed now. The interface takes some time to authenticate the digital lock if you are opening the course after a while. But I think this is the best way to stop piracy.
The site http://chessthinkingsystems.blogspot.com/ is a free site. However, useful suggestions and reviews come from GM in return for advt. of his courses. Moreover, many people say that his free videos on the site are also useful and make the site more lively.
I found the GMs site from your posts and mentioned this when I was buying the GM's Secrets. As I said, the material is good. I got it for my 10 yo daughter but am using it myself also. It's a little bit over our heads at the moment and that's why we are watching Video 1.1 for about the 10th time. I like it because most of the day, I have no access to the internet and I can study the course on my laptop. It was working okay, then after Win7 installed some updates and re-booted the computer, I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did. I uninstalled and re-installed the software but nothing worked. At last. I emailed Igor for advice but got my message bounced as containing abusive material. I tried again, but got the same thing and started to panic because I had only had the course for a few days and thought the company had dissappeared or something. At last, when I had a decent internet connection, I was able to download and install more of the recommended software and got the videos going again. All that messing around is 1 of the drawbacks. The other is that no matter what settings I use, there's always a letter or 2 missing on the RHS of the pages for printing out. The help file provides no useful advice on this and then even advises updating your printer drivers as a last resort! I imagine this is a problem for alot of people since it's in the FAQs. Why doesn't he simply pull in the margins a few charcters and all would be solved?
PS. Even the free videos are good, to give the man credit. Good luck with your own site!
I think what has happened that the time of your installing windows 7 has somehow coincided with the arising problems in the digital locks. In fact all the endgame courses and others purchased in Feb. 11 & March 11 had got into this problem sometimes back. I reported GM that his new customers will be very annoyed with this. The digital lock problem was resolved the same day on which I e-mailed him.
I have experienced on my Windows XP Laptop that if you open a course for the first time, it authenticates via internet. After this if you open the same course again and again, it opens without internet connection. But again, if you are opening after a while, it needs internet connection again to authenticate.
Which course have you purchased? The margins can be set by you before print if the material is in MS word. Select all the material and click justify which will align all the lines and words will not be missing. Anyway, I will suggest GM regarding this.
Please read and comment.
Should at least demonstrate with that famous game against spassky where spassky was totally smashed up against the end of the board. (Spassky - Petrosian WCH 1966 (0-1) I believe)
