How are you guys feeling about the game at this point? Looks unclear to my eyes but an exciting KG game nonetheless.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2011-03-02 23:19
It is costing me a lot to play this game, currently I have a 0.30 advantage on the radar but as time advances I really doubt it's enough to push it.

There are some tricky variations where tomski could lose the game on the spot, but that's about it. What I've found amazing is that with just this game together with our Halloween challenge I've been as busy as when I had 8 games going on , lot's of fun but I'm really starting to doubt if playing into these complexities makes sense.

i felt good, up until i made a move Uly didn't expect, and i quickly saw why... i no longer had any advantage. I'm seeing all draws now, but nothing near 0.30 that Uly is. He has a strong position, and there may be no way to hold onto my extra piece... time will tell

> but nothing near 0.30 that Uly is.

Oh, I haven't refuted all the variations so it would likely end up much closer to 0.00, but if I refuted all variations I wouldn't know what to play if many moves ended tied. The way I'm doing it avoids self-refutation and plays the most promising variation, but as Moz may demonstrate in the Halloween challenge game, this may be a terrible strategy similar to OTB "hope chess" (e.g. I'd hope there's no variation that refutes everything, that you'd play).

I won't lie to you. I wouldn't even have to look at my GUI to know what engine you used here
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2011-03-03 20:11
It was Rybka 3 Dynamic. Actually, that 0.22 is probably a position that is lost for black, but the way I work here, it's the score that is propagated to the root.

Yes, unfortunately tomski1981 avoided it, those crazy lines were for 22...Bxg4!?, the move I probably would have played as black.

Yup, that caused a big fail low (since last move), I'm now just fighting for a draw...

My positive evals were just wishful-thinking, but what I'm gonna do? I just kept on doing what I did on my other won games.

Well done tomski1981! Your "anti-Uly" style has always impressed me, I doubt I'll be ever able to defeat you.
Parent - By tomski1981 (****) [ca] Date 2011-03-09 00:45
thanks, that's high praise from you.

i wish i knew what an anti-uly style was...but i do not. Truth is, that if you didn't play entertaining chess (what we all love) then this would happen less often. My favorite poker player in the past was gus hansen (because of his style)... but we don't see him much in the finals (because of his style).. but i do love to watch him play.

it's hard fighting with a piece down (even with pawn and position compensation). Of course, it's far from won, so i cannot relax.
