He's my last chance to save our match, as you're winning +1 =2 -0. Sure, we can play more matches later, but in my heart it's NOW OR NEVER

I'm just glad you didn't play another Sicilian, I'd have freaked out!... more.

>lol.. how? with 2.b4?

, no idea, but the Wing Gambit seems old and boring, I think black can force a draw at will and has the only winning chances, the king gambit is still very interesting. I'm planning on freaking out against a Sicilian at the WBCCC depending on the circumstances, so we will see...

Good night.

i was actually surprised when you said that.. and i disagree that Nc3 is forced.

i'm actually surprised you didn't follow an old game of yours where you won as white...

> i disagree that Nc3 is forced.

Heh, I meant that I was forced to play it since it was my plan since the start of the game.

I'm glad I keep managing to surprise you , I almost have my next move ready...

somehow you must have known i was going to play e5..

I really doubt you had the Quaade planned
Parent - - By Weirwindle (***) [us] Date 2011-03-03 04:34
I'm surprised how Rybka 4 book names 4. Bc4 white's #1 choice/colored green. In my book it would be h4 every time.
1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. Bc4??! g4 5. O-O gxf3 6. Qxf3 Qf6 7. d3 Nc6!!! 8.
Bxf4 Bc5+ 9. Kh1 Ne5 10. Bxe5 Qxe5 11. Bxf7+ Kd8 12. Nd2 Nh6?!
I ought to name it.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2011-03-03 04:40

> 4. Bc4??!

Agreed here, though I've never faced 8...Bc5+.
Parent - By Weirwindle (***) [us] Date 2011-03-03 04:50 Edited 2011-03-03 04:54
I guess it isn't any more surprising than many books having 7. e5
1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. Bc4 g4 5. O-O gxf3 6. Qxf3 Qf6 7. e5 Qxe5 8.
d3 Bh6 9. Nc3 Nc6 10. Bd2 Kd8

I would be toking it up the night after if a white opponent ever made Bc4
EDIT: Not literally but I would feel that way.
Parent - - By Master Om (Bronze) [in] Date 2011-03-30 07:18
No Uly. U sud have played Bc4 or h4. and believe me dont believe the engines.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2011-03-30 15:06
But 4.Nc3 was the whole point behind 2.f4! That was the line I had prepared.

It failed miserably because... It's tomski! I wouldn't have done better with Bc4 or h4, I did have a 0.15 in my screen at some point that then went downhill, with another move things would have gone bad even faster.
Parent - - By Master Om (Bronze) [in] Date 2011-03-30 15:19
believe me Bc4 is the best of the 3 . There is no way you can refute it. After few moves you will feel the need of Bc4 instead of Nc3 and engines dont understand a bit.

Do you mean it "wins" or something? We will see in our next game...

A king's gambit this should be interesting.
Parent - - By Moz (****) Date 2011-02-02 07:14
And not just any King's Gambit - the Quaade variation. One of the most under appreciated (and rare!) King's Gambit lines!  Some of the prettiest games I've ever played started off as Quaade games.
Parent - - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-02-02 07:20
I have a feeling we will see a kings gambit before the WBCCC is over :)
Parent - - By Moz (****) Date 2011-02-02 07:30
I might play it in the later rounds after I have an idea of how the table is shaping up. If I'm out of contention I'd give it a go, otherwise I'd be compelled to try and make the most of my white games. Against a good centaur w/ big hardware, I think it would be a difficult game but it would be fun to give it a go.
Parent - By TheHug (Bronze) [us] Date 2011-02-02 07:38
You looked in good form in round 1. I was a little surprised by a couples of the top players.

I finished one of my games as well and that's why I could start my game against tomski, but I've been busy with my game against Lobostepario, perhaps next week.

Decision time in a double edged position. White gets excellent compensation if he decides to sacrifice the knight. It's anybody's game now...

of course, only after playing g4 do i realize how complicated it can get....

> of course, only after playing g4 do i realize how complicated it can get....

 Yes, this is pretty much a dream position for anyone who loves to play the King's Gambit. It's obviously unclear but white has so many romantic options that it's hard not to love the position -- there aren't many where you can sacrifice a second piece in a corr game and still have decent chances!  We're not there yet and Uly may decide to go in a different direction but the fact that such a move is even part of the conversation speaks volumes about complexity and the nature of positional compensation.
Parent - By tomski1981 (*****) [ca] Date 2011-02-04 05:25
this seems to be a key move for white... it's so hard to choose...

and as i 'looked' ahead at the possibilities, there were many... but if Uly can't pull this off (and at least draw), then it won't embolden others much to try this
- By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2011-02-04 05:37
Well, I already took my risks, and I don't want to take any more, from now on I'll play the most sound moves that I can find, and hope that you slip.
