How do members know who they are?
How are they appointed?

Wow, didn't know HEM was a moderator!

Note: There's a mysterious private group "Rybka Board Moderator", so it's possible there's an extra secret forum moderator.

There used to be a board where everybody was a moderator. Their powers included mass-moving topics and deciding which groups got access to the board (new groups wouldn't become moderators, though). :yell:

Didn't they find it weird to have edit and delete buttons on other members' posts? Or what methods were available for such basic moderator actions?

Even if I was never told, I wold have found [Deleted] "hey, look! I can mass-move all the topics of Vempele!"

Depends on how it was implemented:

If it was an option click-able on the topic, in the face of everyone: 2 minutes-2 hours.

If it was some obscure option on some profile or the main forum page (e.g., a non direct link, and hidden among many other options): 3 weeks-3 years.

If one had to access the powers by typing an secret URL in the address bar: Never.
