So far I am discounting games (1,2) as potentially coming from a drawish opening, and (7,8) and (9,10) as coming from an opening with too much advantage for white. This leaves two relevant openings, (3,4) better for R4, and (5,6) better for SF.

Why didn't you just play each opening twice so that each engine has the exact same conditions to play from?

So, each engine can play black & white in the opening. Yes, it gives equal conditions in an opening.
Parent - - By sarciness (***) [gb] Date 2010-10-06 14:21
Yes. This is my point. Are you playing all openings twice then? Your last post implied you weren't.

>Yes. This is my point. Are you playing all openings twice then? Your last post implied you weren't.

I have no control over what opening White decides to play- but, whatever opening White does play will be played also by Black in the next round. I'm not sure where you are not seeing each opening being played twice?

If you want to see the entire spread of games from round (1) through to the current standing- you will need to go to the Edge. I made it clear that I am only presenting games that show wins here on this forum.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2010-10-07 06:33
Why did you decide to keep that at the edge? So that people that don't have access can't see it? What would be the reason of THAT?

>Why did you decide to keep that at the edge? So that people that don't have access can't see it? What would be the reason of THAT?

As I indicated above- if you would take the time to read what I posted-

This thread is here to present highlights.  I don't  know how many times I need to say this before it sinks in -

I am not interested in creating two threads of possibly 40 to 50 games as they complete, here where there is too much going on,  and on the  Edge where there is less traffic and where I can filter posts not relvant to the "Match Thread".

However, with that said, at the conclusion  of the match- I certainly  don't mind posting a file containing a compression of all the games in pgn format.

> I am not interested in creating two threads of possibly 40 to 50 games as they complete,

Then you could just have created this thread, the one at the edge wasn't necessary (and that was not the purpose of the edge), and bookmark the edge thread so that you can get to the topic from your browser without having to "filter posts".

If you're having to repeat your reason over and over, it's because there are people that would like to see stuff here without having to go to the edge, you're just fragmenting discussion.

>Edit: I don't think 'control freak' is an accurate when describing Vytron-that was said in haste when I was pissed off.

>I feel more comfortable here then I do in the main forum.

Why? Because people with less than 500 posts can't read your messages?

>This idea, I think, when juxtaposed against Vytron's considerations, by necessity is contrary to his willing to understand.

What you're doing is having a duplicate thread, that is, two identical threads serving the same purpose, in the whole history of Rybka Forum such threads would be deleted, merged, or one of them closed, or one of them would be allowed to stay if the duplicate was very old, so these threads of yours are the first exception.

If find your "I don't think I'm going to post any further games on the main forum" unsatisfactory, you should stop posting them at the edge! The edge wasn't created for stuff like this, and I'm still curious as why you're posting them to a smaller audience, if I cared I'd report the threads as duplicates, with the hopes that moderation isn't lazy to merge them.

 I could also have decided not to post any games here! Then you or the main forum would have been totally unaware that these games were going on except those who have access to the Edge. This is my decision to go out of my way and share the highlights of these games with you- and ultimately furnish a copy of all the games. I don't have to do either.

To consider that anyone who decides they don't like what someone else is posting- because it doesn't meet with there approval is outrageous self aggrandizement and nothing less then an act of  demagoguery.

These games between SF1.9 and R4 at this longer time control are very interesting and should be useful for looking for weaknesses in both engines. I'm glad Robert is doing this test, even if the results bar is presented in garish colors.

I don't know if this has anything to do with that- but my lcd is a new ips paneled monitor, and I have yet to do a calibration on it. I haven't decided whether to go with a Spyder3 or X-Rite Eye-One.

I'm 100% sure that you are way ahead of me on those types of things. I just look for Sharp or Samsung glass in my LCDs, a big surface to compensate for my not-so-great vision, and reasonable uniformity over the surface (which should become much easier when LED back-lighting replaces serpentine fluorescent over the next few years.
