| When Vas Jr learns to say the words "Bug-Fix!" | 13 | 13% |
We have all seen and heard the-idle speeches, sweet nothings, endearments, wind, gas, hot air, vaporing, verbiage, diffuseness, rant, ranting and raving, bombast, fustian, rodomontade, boasting, blether, blather, blah-blah-blah, flimflam, guff, hogwash, eyewash, claptrap, poppycock, fable, humbug, falsehood, malarkey, hokum, bunkum, bunk, baloney, hooey, flummery, blarney, flattery, sales talk, patter, sales patter, spiel talk, chatter, prattle, prating, yammering, babble, gabble, jabber, jibber jabber, jaw, yackety-yak, yak yak, rhubarb, chatter
The potential of a Bug Fix has been subsequently seen as nothing less or more than; an abstraction, shadow, ghost, phantom, phantasm, specter, vision, dream, mirage, optical illusion, visual fallacy air, thin air, wind, vapor, mist, bubble, gossamer, wisp, straw, trifle, bauble, vanity, vanity of vanities, inanity, fatuity, fool's paradise, folly, flight of fancy, figment of the imagination, pipe dream, vaporware, castle in the air, fantasy, all talk, moonshine, cock and bull story, hot air, idle talk, gossip, speculation, rumor, empty talk, tall talk, exaggeration, mockery, pretense, chimera, figment, courtesy title, flash in the pan idea.
So! The question remains-if at all, when?
Please, feel free to take part in this poll and register a vote!

sid-
p.S. (Vas, if you do decide to take part in this poll. It would be really appreciated if you wouldn't mind, sharing with us how you voted?!)
> Is it suppose to be a multiple-choice poll?
I set it up that way!

Basically, since it's taken that long it's reasonable to assume they would want to exploit Christmas to sell more copies. If it's not released by that time, then it will never be released.
Well... that's my guess.
(However, when you get to December you begin to reach that point of no return. That's when you have to rely on Vas Jr to learn the words, "Bug-Fix".)
You can vote- soon- maybe soon- (I hope before little Vas learns to say, "Bug-Fix"!) At least I hope by next Spring! Get the idea- it is all relative when you're trying to speculate on Vas's ultimate intentions. There almost has to be more than one choice- because his mind changes all the time.
Don't feel obligated to limit yourself to the choices I've given!
Vas Jr. will be DOING the bug fix!
> Yes, and my daughter is still hoping that the tooth fairy will show up with $10 per tooth. At some point, we must free ourselves from these fantasies!
Oh, that is just the ranting of a cynical cheap S.O.B!
Give the apple of your eye a $10 spot for her tooth-for the love of all sweet mercies! God!
Give the apple of your eye a $10 spot for her tooth-for the love of all sweet mercies! God!
It's a fair cop, but at this point I have a dozen of them sitting in a little treasure chest on my desk...
I think people should buy rybka thinking buy at your risk and you will not get an update end of.No point crying for update when you know there are other things which take more priority always.
Atleast this is what I have learnt.
Irony is Vas thinks thats the fact:(
>Then we will have a poll about when the R5 bug fix will be.
At the risk of being termed naive-I'm going to give Vas the benefit of the doubt here, in the hope that he will follow through furnishing the R4 bug-fix, which I think will go a long way in clearing the air.
I hope you are right.
Cheers,
Harvey
Here is the ultimate BUG FIX!
A movie made about Vas, writing code for the bug-fix!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGu2qxtBwpA&feature=related
edit: It is my contention that conducting a poll should be not only the act of fact gathering- but, also should be instructive, entertaining and emotive. And, yes, it can also invoke a religious experience- as is indicative of the post below.
> I'm sure that that bug-fix transcends anyone person or group of people that may have lost faith in his willingness to do the right thing. What concerns me is his penchant for not keeping his customers and fans informed of the progress his is or is not making in writing a bug-fix. Communication can go a long way.
I totally agree. For me personally, the failure to deliver a bug fix for R3 or R4 has created a large credibility gap, not to mention the unfinished commitment to create a simple readme file for R4.
>Maybe Vas should take the most common answer as a recommendation
There is another point to be made here, Lukas, which I think is important.
Your close involvement with Vas' projects might give the impression to others that you are in some way in a position to shape- influence, Vas' thinking on certain issues.
dpR4 is #1 and Vas knows it!
He has to fight off the clones you know!!

At first I was all like, "A+++++++++ Would buy from again!"
but then I was like, "Beware: broken product and poor communication skills!"
> Vas already has one that says 'sooooooon' in reply ;-)
Vas will probably post a..
+1
...to your post!

Mr Rajlich did it once ( R3), he will do it again with R4 and he will keep doing it as long as you buy his stuff.
> Remember the Jerry Lee Lewis song: Your Cheating Heart.
> Mr Rajlich did it once ( R3), he will do it again with R4 and he will keep doing it as long as you buy his stuff.
Here is the plaintive cry of a computer chess junky in need of a Bug-Fix! This forum needs to recognize that it has formed a habit- When you buy R4, the thinking is that you could just "chip" without forming a habit.
But R4 "is" habit forming. There is no such thing as being able to pick it up once and a while, causally putting it down without feeling strong withdrawals.
Mr. Rajlich is a smart drug dealer- he knows you won't be able to just use R4 causally.
He got you hooked needing a "bug fix" beginning with 2.3.2A. However, that he did give and it was free-no charge.
After that the candy-man began "stepping on his product" creating a need for a fix. But he didn't give you that fix- you had to buy another version of that product with the promise that it had a bigger kick -and it did-but-
But he had "stepped on it " again creating yet another need for another fix.
Rybka= Little Fish! Ever wonder where that name came from?!
" Little Fish is a " 2005" Australian film- Little Fish is about Tracy Heart (Cate Blanchett), a former heroin addict.."
When did Rybka first make its appearance!

"Hey, Vas, dude, please just give me one BUG FIX man! Come on man the crap they're pushing out there- it doesn't have the same kick, man! "

> Er, wasn't that a Hank Williams song first?
"Your Cheatin' Heart" is a song written and recorded by the American country music singer and songwriter Hank Williams in 1952, but released after his death in 1953.[1]. It is often considered one of his greatest songs, and one of the great songs of country music.

> May be fixing bugs is the work of the cloners. They fixed the ones in Rybka 3, they may help Vas with Rybka 4
But, they never seem to get it quite right!
Sorry! You will get no help from that quarter. That is just synthetic junk! For a chess engine junky- it's a cheap high, with a bad crash that leaves you with the shakes.
If you are going to "boot" anything into your computer system it almost has to be - R4 , in need of a Bug-Fix or otherwise.
> Sorry to say, but your post is just plain wrong. The clones may not be suitable for engine-engine matches...
But...then my post isn't " just plain wrong!"
You just make a good case for a BUG-FIX! (hey weren't you the guy who gave me a hard time when I requested a commitment from Vas for a bug-fix right from the outset?! I'm getting the distinct feeling that you just like to be argumentative!
).
Of course once these are fixed, R4 may be a totally different engine, and not necessarily stronger than the current version (i.e. the bugs may result in a net Elo gain 99% of the time while resulting in freezing up during analysis the other 1% of the time).
>Of course once these are fixed, R4 may be a totally different engine...
Of course this is pure speculation on my part based on an intuition that the bugs inherent in R4 are a direct result of having some of its code excluded to accomodate some prescribed level of less strength he felt acceptable for a commercial R4. Which, might necessitate his now having to develop, "essentially" a new version to get rid of the inherent flaws of the current one.
If this is the case then when he decided to go the route of an 'R4 fe master' (if this is what it is now being designated as) and if that "super version" eveloved out of R3-then the onus is on him to do the work in removing the flaws inherent in the stripped down version he released. As long as he has two very different versions-he has made more work for himself.
When it comes down to it- what is the difference between some knockoff version of R4 and the one he is putting out there- with the exception that his is a better knockoff?
If this is the case, a clone would probably resolve the problem by using a different hash implementation.
> I'm thinking there might be a bug in Vas's hash concept, rather than just in the implementation.
Then I'd be better served keeping my intuition out of this and just keep hoping for the best possible outcome! The problem with this situation is that it has gone so long unaddressed that one is only left with speculation- and as in my case, the speculation goes into some awful horror story that has no bases in reality.
