when will it come down in price!!!
You can get it for $1000 now:

The good news is that the price will drop exponentially, like every other CPU.
The bad news is that when it is cheap, it will be exponentially weaker than the new $1000 CPU, and so you probably won't want to buy it.

I've got a Q6600 which can't overclock because the mobo itself is overclocked to just barely accept the Q6600. yes its an old board :) I was thinking of waiting until the 980x got down to about $350-$500 but by then sandy bridge might have something to offer with its entry level that is almost as fast for cheaper :)
I have a very simmilar dilemma now, having used Q6600 @ 3.15 for 2 years now, where do I go from here? What would nowadays be the equivalent of "cheap and relatively fast and overclockable" Q6600?
Go for the Q9650 at 3 GHz....mine running at 4.0 GHz with a good water cooling 24/7 for a year and a half now.
I know!
....but probably when their next model comes out.
