this new SF still only supports max 8 cpu like Naum.

What is your view on S1.9 over S1.8 in terms of performance?
Parent - - By Ray (****) Date 2010-10-03 20:34
Unfortunately chess960 support is broken in this version
Parent - - By Ray (****) Date 2010-10-03 20:53
However, it does seem to be playing chess960 fine under ChessGUI

It should work under Shredder 12 GUI, Stockfish 1.8 certainly does
Parent - - By ernest (****) [fr] Date 2010-10-04 22:48
Apparently, in order to work in the Shredder GUI, you have to add "Chess960" in the Options section of the UCI engine text file Stockfish 1.9 JA.eng

> Apparently, in order to work in the Shredder GUI, you have to add "Chess960" in the Options section of the UCI engine text file Stockfish 1.9 JA.eng

Ah, I'll see if I can do this. Trouble is I've never found out where the Shredder 12 GUI stores these files.
Shredder 11 stores them here
C:\Program Files (x86)\ShredderChess\Deep Shredder 11 UCI\Engines

But Shredder 12 does not store them in where you'd expect
C:\Program Files (x86)\ShredderChess\Deep Shredder 12 UCI\Engines
Parent - - By Ray (****) Date 2010-10-05 06:25 Edited 2010-10-05 06:42
Found them

C:\Users\Ray\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ShredderChess\Deep Shredder 12 UCI\Engines

But adding UCI_Chess960=true into the options section of the file still does not make it work.

Hi Ray,

I read that in    http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36256

but maybe I did not understand if that was really a fix...

I think you misread it, it wasn't suggesting that solution to me
Parent - - By ernest (****) [fr] Date 2010-10-05 22:21
OK, Ray, the solution: Stockfish 1.9.1 bug fix release for Chess960.

Stockfish 1.9.1 runs in Shredder GUI as it should but unfortunately with couple of thousand lines of code they have changed, they seem to have introduced a chess960 bug
Parent - - By Eduard (***) [de] Date 2010-10-04 08:59
This has become irrelevant!

This year has not played Chess960 WCCC (normally...in Mainz with Rybka). Or?

ED.
Parent - By Ray (****) Date 2010-10-04 09:43
Irrelevant for you maybe, not for some others.

Just played a couple of blitz games vs Rybka 3. On my machine at least, it's blowing the old girl out of the water!
Parent - By atenzor (**) [ca] Date 2010-10-03 19:42
I also played some blitz games against that Gull Chess engine and SF 1.9 won the match 2.5-1.5, great games

We have to remember that one game doesn't prove anything, we need more tests/games in order to say one is better than another.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-10-03 22:35
i know that.this game was originally posted by me on TalkChess where someone complained that SF would not run correctly on 8 cpu and gave low kN/s.
Parent - - By ppipper (*****) [es] Date 2010-10-04 10:42
So this game is really 12 cores vs 8 cores? Thanks
Parent - - By pokerpawn (***) [be] Date 2010-10-05 08:19
yes my first thought too , I think you have to limit rybka to 8 as well , not a problem most people have
one of the "disadvantages" of big hardware Paul :)

Poor us

yes, however now a few have 12 core computers,i hope for a 12 core fix like JA did for SF 1.7.1.trouble is Stockfish teams biggest hardware is i believe 4 cpu.
Parent - By kinderchocolate [au] Date 2010-10-10 23:52
How to reduce the level of difficulty?
- - By punter11235 (**) [pl] Date 2010-10-04 16:10
Quick question:
If I run Stockfish 1.9 in old Aquarium (for Rybka 3) will it automatically use more than 1 core ?
If not, how do I check if it does ?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2010-10-04 22:07
Right click taskbar > Task Manager, the engine usage should be 100% if it's using all cores.
Parent - By punter11235 (**) [pl] Date 2010-10-04 23:59
Thanks much !
- - By Moz (****) Date 2010-10-05 23:41
Is it my imagination or is SF1.9's evaluation less schizophrenic than previous versions?
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-10-06 01:01
its still iffy.
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-10-06 02:57
As Paul says, it still changes a lot, but it is a lot more stable than the SF1.8 evaluations.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2010-10-06 03:19
And I've just discovered I'm a fan of SF1.8's instability (specially when it considers a weird move for a split second like "It's fail high!! ... No, it's fail low!!" only to forget to resolve it and show a different move from then on, but after further inspection that weird move would turn out best, Stockfish 1.9 would just show the different move all along and never flash the weird one), 1.9 has seem a bit boring so far...
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-10-06 03:44
If you want to tame SF, put in into MPV mode. It doesn't lose nearly as much depth as Rybka.
Parent - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2010-10-06 04:55
Thanks for the suggestion, I only use MultiPV with Rybka 3 PH and Zappa, the former because it's needed for the workarounds, the latter because it doesn't support exclude moves, if Stockfish has a superb efficient implementation of MultiPV, your advice is going to be very useful.

Stockfish 1.9.1 JA

What's new:
This is just a bug fix release to restore chess960 support under some GUIs.

There is NO functional change and NO speed change, so absolutely NO ELO change from 1.9 and people that has already tested 1.9 could safely keep test results when swithcing to 1.9.1.
