Rybka wins the blitz title in Japan by scoring 8/9. Only loss was against Rondo, due to bad luck: the cluster got disconnected while Rybka was showing mate in 12 and lost on time. Enjoy the games:

too bad hans couldn't take over in the first game :) would be funny if the operator would be allowed to play on :)

Wow Rybka really outplayed everyone, some in totally dry positions ... very impressive!  Completely outplayed Rondo in what seemed like a totally drawn endgame ... the plan with g5! was really impressive.
Parent - - By zwegner (***) Date 2010-09-30 00:44
Keep in mind that a big part of the blitz is operator skill, as well as the time controls they set for the engine. In the first few games, Rondo was using a time control that got it down to 0 seconds after too long. Most of its searches were 1 ply then, and the only thinking it did was on the opponent's time--that's the only reason it didn't play completely terribly.

Another big factor is that Rondo was running on a remote desktop which had a lot of lag. It lost three games on time mostly as a result of this.
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-09-30 02:43
Completely baffling. Why don't they hold the blitz tournament on Chessbase or some other online server? Using manual input for engine blitz seems kind of brain dead.

I'm not sure why your remote desktop had a lot of lag, so I'll just blame that on Suj!

Oh no. It would be totally boring without human intervention. It's great, anything can happen. See the Rondo win against Rybka. It's very fast paced and stressful, but that's the fun part.

> I'm not sure why your remote desktop had a lot of lag

Well, it's remote for one. :D

OK. In that case, a device should be developed which applies an electric shock to the operator's genitals between when the move arrives and when it is made on the chessboard to motivate him to faster action.

A strange Rybka endgame playing with Jonny.
Dubious 62...Rc1 instead of 62...Rxc6! with M17.
How can it be explained? Bug with tablebases again?
Parent - - By Lukas Cimiotti (Bronze) [de] Date 2010-09-30 05:42
The game vs. Jonny was played on Hans' laptop due to technical problems. So the cluster wasn't involved.
Parent - By M ANSARI (*****) [kw] Date 2010-09-30 05:49
Hi Lukas,  it would be great if you could make a final report regarding how the match progressed and what was used and what problems you had.  I have to say that trying to follow this WCCC match was quite a challenge.  Also if the laptop had played, it would be nice to show where the cluster would have played differently.
Parent - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2010-09-30 02:56
The Junior game was lost out of book.  13. e5? was a blunder, while I think that 13. Be2 is a known draw.
