this has been discussed many times on the forum.my own belief is that after d20 displayed we are looking at at least d24.many engines show extentions and say in some lines an engine is looking down certain lines to say for example d40 this is an arbitrary number, but you guys know what i mean.IMHO Rybka looks also down these extentions as well but does not display them and that is why you feel Rybka sort of locks up.from experience i can say that Rybka does not lock up.atm i believe i have biggest computer on the forum(it could change in a few days or weeks)and i am having similar probs in a difficult position however i also have a Skully to run alongside it from position x.all i can say is that after a long delay(hours) my 12 core is looking 1 move deeper than my Skully.i would welcome other peoples opinions.

Either R4 locks up or Aquarium locks up. I don't think it's Aquarium because I can change the analysis engine and everything is fine.  In Aquarium when the little green square icon for an engine turns to brown, Aquarium isn't communicating with it. This has happened numerous times when doing analysis. Also it's not very repeatable.

Paul uses the CB interface as far as I know.
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-15 18:26
yes that is correct.

As the question was asked of me- so I ask it of you ! Are you using multiple single core engines for the analysis?
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-09-19 01:10
It's almost never good when things are turning brown...
Parent - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-19 01:15
Like they say up in the mountain cottages- if its yellow, let it mellow- if it's brown flush it down!

I use multiple single engines in IDEA, however in IA I use mpv and single pv, exclude and multiple engines. It crashes usually in mpv or spv and usually hangs when it has a check to evaluate.

Check with Dadi in Aquarium forum on this, I don't think it is hanging or crashing- it's probably the way you are using multiple engines in analysis.
Parent - - By keoki010 (Bronze) [us] Date 2010-09-19 16:23
Nope, it does exactly what other users have said.
Parent - - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-19 16:27
All the more reason to express this issue on the Aquarium forum!
Parent - By keoki010 (Bronze) [us] Date 2010-09-19 19:28
It does the same in other gui's

How does R3 or SF behave compared to your Skully?

Should I upgrade? ;)
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 12:07 Edited 2010-09-16 12:17
SF will only run on max of 8cpu.from start position on 6 min run i get.

skully  7385 kN/s
new comp.12,150 kN/s

these figures are with 1024 hash,if you reduce hash it will run faster.
Parent - - By oudheusa (*****) [nl] Date 2010-09-16 12:44
Too bad R4 doesn't seem to benefit. With its more selective behavior you would expect it to be a monster.

Have you tried R3?
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 13:08
not sure what you mean by R4 not benefitting from faster comp.BigBen had R4 running at just over 1000 kN/s on my computer at start position.
Parent - - By oudheusa (*****) [nl] Date 2010-09-16 13:23
I missed that, on 4cpu i think R4 reaches 400kn/s.

However, you mentioned above that R4 was only 1 ply deeper than your skully after hours. That seems disappointing right?
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 13:33
i think this was at d29 and d30 from a set position.it would depend on complexity of position and in itself is pretty meaningless.

Hello

You can to have Stockfish 17.1-16-64; it work with 16 cores max.
I am running it on 12 cores, and work well:

i have just done a fresh download of SF 1.7.1.you cannot set it above 8 threads( 8 cpu).i think you are mixing up CPU with Hyper-threading.i run 12 cpu with HT(24 threads)  switched off.you are running it appears with HT on.it actually slows Rybka down which has been mentioned many times on the forum.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 14:00
lol
12 cores - 24 threads.
If you give me your email adress, i can send you a special compile Stockfish for more 8 cores. Max. 16 cores.
It was special compile for 12 cores or more by Jim Ablett at our request.

Thanks for the link to the pictures. That's some serious hardware!  (Not sure I'd be allowed to build something like that in the house...)
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 14:27
Try!
Parent - - By Mark (****) [us] Date 2010-09-16 14:30
I could probably pull it off in the basement.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 14:33
Need good air in basament, or watercooling.
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2010-09-16 23:52
No, no no! Put your wife in the basement and the chess computer in the living room!
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-17 04:28
lol!!

Imagine my wife... I have others machines working.

56 cores working on IDeA is much noise!

I sended the engine with settings. Check your e-mail.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 15:10
got it,thanks.

with your compile SF in start position runs at 13,025 compared to 1.8.1 at 12,150.kN/s.hang on did not set 16.
Parent - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 15:16
You are welcome.
The kn/s is not the more important.
The more important is the general performance in all analyse.
Let work for few minutes and check plies.
Compare it on SF 1.8 and 1.7.1-16; you will have more deep.
Parent - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 15:17
that was your settings when running at 13,025.i also am running at 4.2.
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 17:17
you will can 16 cores with HT  ON, no good idea.
With HT OFF, only can to have 12 cores.
Set 12 cores and check with task manager, you will see working all cores.
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-16 17:35
i did all that,working fine.ignore what i said about 16 i just had a blind spot for a moment.i never use HT.

thanks again for link.

best Paul.
Parent - - By Rubén Cómes (****) [ar] Date 2010-09-16 19:08
Ok.
Good luck! and post your results, if you can...
Parent - By suj (***) Date 2010-09-18 17:28
btw there is also a 32 core stockfish compile but not greatly optimised.
