I just wanted to say - thank you for Rybka 4. It is even better than Rybka 3.

I have purchased R4 first off and I am not sorry. It IS a good engine. When we get the mpv
bug fixed it will be ok 4 me. Until then I still use it in everyone of my CC games but in single pv mode.
Obviously many other engines come into play including R3 & its get around major bug.
Wayne
PS: Btw, even in single pv mode many of my cc game moves reflect R4 analysis. Interesting ! But
thank goodness for good ole lil girl R3 and other of my engines.

BTW PS#2: Where do you see how many post's one has made. Dumb question I know

Just click on your name in any one of your posts is the more direct way!

P.S

I would hope no one relies on any one engine for analysis. I always use multiple engines to do checks.

Better and worse, very common in software, we just were spoiled by Rybka 3 (AND even then, it contained bugs that 2.3.2a didn't have).
Parent - - By Razor (****) [gb] Date 2010-09-01 08:38
Agreed - I was an early purchaser and suffered the consequences of letting my heart rule my head - I now have a piece of software I don't use.

The difference in strength between Rybka 4 and the non-commercial engines such as stockfish is rapidly diminishing, and as I have no interest in competitive computer chess, I very much doubt the few elo extra offered by Rybka will really enhance any analysis I use engines for anyway. Besides, I do suspect we nearing a plateau and improvements are going to be tiny for a while (if you compare on today's hardware) and that the computer chess renaissance is coming to a close.

> and that the computer chess renaissance is coming to a close.

I would disagree with this pointing out the coming of age of chess engines like Stockfish, Komoto, et al. I would conclude that this is a watershed in computer chess engine development- and, a whole new ball game. I perceive more interactive chess engine parameter development concomitant with hardware advances.
Parent - By Razor (****) [gb] Date 2010-09-04 07:07
Agreed - R4 is also not the most reliable analysis tool anyway, which is why I have stopped using it.

Title to this thread should be " Rybka, Thanks For The Memories."

or "Rest in Peace"

According to all or almost all lists, Rybka 4 is the best engine in the world.
Okay, some bugs, but I still wait for Rybka 4.1

You may or may not have noticed that my previous reply to your post has now been removed by one of the moderators on the basis that the term I had used 'free engines' could be viewed as a 'clone' and therefore has no place on this forum.  I was not aware that using generic terms like 'free engines' warranted such moderator action or even generic words like 'clone' or 'piracy' etc {even though I didn't use these words} were tantamount to this action - what a strange world we live in here within the constraints of this forum.

That's because they don't want to admit that Rybka is not the best engine anymore. Their customer service is also below average. They should learn from the Aquarium team or Hiarcs.

you may see my test results.i cannot really say more.sorry.

I will never participate in hidden discussions and may therefore never see your results, but I can read what others have tested elsewhere and I can see my own tests. Rybka4 is not the best engine anymore.

Those nebulous "they" are at it again! One can never stop "them" from talking trash or defending trash. But Rybka is, from what I've seen in testing still on top of the heap.

You may wait it for the eternity. Vas seems to not be interested in Rybka like before anymore.

Gaмßito.
Parent - - By Akbarfan (***) Date 2010-09-01 23:48
Yes, I have the same impression.
Maybe we should Rybka put aside and deal more with the much stronger (in the near future) and less buggy Stockfish and H..,
and in future do not buy any more (without bug-check) so fast Rykba.

Perhaps Vas then wakes up.
Parent - - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-02 00:51
No matter which way you cut it-Rybka 4 is still on top-bug notwithstanding.  Whether the bug is directly or indirectly a manifestation of breaking down- Remote R4, to meet pop market needs,  is anyones guess! But if it is,  than I would imagine the implications of fixing said bug would be a real hassle. It's a job for Norm!
Parent - - By tigershark (**) Date 2010-09-02 06:23
The problem I have is that I only use engines for infinite analysis and the occasional engine tournament  on a favorite opening. I can't use rybka in infinite analysis looking at multiple lines as I like. so the software is useless for me for now. I just use stockfish now and won't buy rybka again. version 3 and 4 are just  too buggy.
Parent - - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-02 08:48
I've had no issues running Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 in infinite analysis.
Parent - - By nebulus (****) [no] Date 2010-09-02 11:47
I think he refers to multiPV bug, which makes the engine pretty much unusable for a lot of players.
Parent - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-02 12:07 Edited 2010-09-02 12:10
Thanks for clarifying that for me. Appreciate it.

One of Vas' bug fix promises
Parent - - By NATIONAL12 (Gold) [gb] Date 2010-09-03 22:11 Edited 2010-09-03 22:13
i am unsure what all you guys mean by multi PV bug.i have often used multi PV to get other moves and have had no problem, sure it takes a lot longer even with big hardware but that is what i expect.if you want deep multi PV on a quad in a couple of hours you just are not going to get it.Try doing this with Zappa and you will see what i mean.whilst i am at it i have better hardware than Vas.would like to hear views of Lukas on this.
Parent - - By Arrière Pensée (Gold) Date 2010-09-03 23:11
This is the big performance question that is being considered for a bug-fix. I believe, that the bug reference  manifests itself not exclusively on lower end hardware, but certainly in short time controls where time is everything. At least I think this is what it is about- I will stand corrected.
