Hi everybody

As I play against Rybka I like to watch the analysis pane to see, the engine 'think' about what to do next.

But I often wonder why it uses so much time, when the obvious thing to do is simple.
To put it on a test I played a short game leading Rybka to win. And after my last move I saw the analysis pane show "mate in one" by moving the queen. Of course there were other possible moves, but no other move could be better than the mate in one move that the Ryba 4 engine found almost instantly in the analysis pane.

But for some strange reason the engine hesitated for some minutes before making this obvious "mate in one" move.

Why?

The game: 1: e4 g5 2: d4 b5 3: Bxg5 b4 4: bd2 f6 5: Qh5 #

BTW: Hot do I copy a game in a form similar to the above showed form? I had to enter the game manually.
Best regards

Known bug in R4. Even if it finds a mate in 1 it will keep looking for a better move.

Dunno about better, but for a human if eg. e2-e4 gives discovered mate, e3 mates quicker!

The old bug was that Rybka 3 would stick to a mating move and never look to anything else (say, d4 mates in 20, and e4 mates in 2, if Rybka finds d4 first she will NEVER find e4), this new bug takes its place.

Iweta, should smack Vas upside the head and tell him, "Make sure that bug only shows up in Rybka!"

A circuitous but brilliant joke!
