The USCF has a Rybka 4 Extreme in thier sales shop, and I was wondering whats the difference between that and the Aquarium? The Extreme version (GUI) looks to be done by Convecta.

I think Extreme is just rebranded Aquarium.

Probably. But just curious. In any event, when I get my new computer next year, I'll invest in a deep version of Rybka 4.
FYI: I plan on getting the AMD "Bulldozer".

My current computer is a few years old and does have duel core, but not worth investing in a deep version of any chess program. Heck, I'm still using Windows XP sp2 (32 bit).

The description didn't specifically state it was multiprocessor.. is it? It talks about deep analysis, but that doesn't specifically state it uses multiprocessors either. (Could just be a marketing term?)

Same here, except that I'm using a laptop and it's a dinosaur.

It will be quite interesting to see how Bulldozer, in particular their desktop processor Zambezi, is going to perform vs Intel's Sandy Bridge.

I think Sandy Bridge is really about Intel bringing a graphics co-processor on the chip die. I'm sure each core will have 15% to 20% improvement over the current Intel offering, but most of the Sandy Bridge CPU's will be duel core,  and maybe some Quad Core for the power players.

So, its entirely probably that the Bulldozer will be much better than Sandy Bridge, at least for INT operations. AMD is trying to offload more and more Floating Point operations to their Graphic Cards, which leaves more room on the chip for INT cores.  AMD Fusion should be the equivelent of Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture. I'd presume few if any of the Fusion CPU's will have more than 2 cores.

yes, there's a thread somewhere in the forum about it.

Hmm, I couldn't find that thread anyplace. (Searching by Subject "Rybka 4 Extreme" didn't produce what I was looking for.)

Broadening the search to text in the body of a post is like trying to weed out a needle in a haystack of other needles.

I tried to parse by "Rybka 4 extreme", (forcing only the exact word match), turned up too few results.

It's very pricey.

Buy it now, since it'll be better than Rybka 7.

There's a standard version that isn't as good.

>World Champion

It won some tourney.

> Grandmaster

Grandmasters use it.

> Extreme Edition***

(already discussed)

That's what I'd gather from such a name, when it'd be just a re-branded Aquarium 6!

The Battle Network part was taken from the Mega Man series as you probably know. The Japanese are the kings of tacked on names.

Btw gotta talk casually about that package with an abbreviation: DR6BNPPPWCGEE

Oh, yeah, it doesn't feel like a Mega Man game at all, so it was very forgettable and I didn't make the connection. It has awesome music (just like ALL Mega Man games), though.

Yeah! But this comes with the "Bobby Fisher -Infinite Analysis Seance Tool, and Multi-Medium Analysis Access Tool.  Add-on access to  dead chess masters are optional.   It is quite impressive and puts IDeA to shame.

Hey! There is Nothing more extreme than this program.

This is Aquarium, rebranded by USCF. Solely their choice of a catchy title. They seem to think it'll sell better for their customer base. Perhaps that's true.
