I was getting ready to buy Deep Rybka 4 when i noticed that there are two types of software: Deep Rybka 4 and Deep Rybka 4 Aquarium

Are they the same? Which one do you advise me to buy? They do cost the same...

There you can see what is available. Basically the difference between the packages is the GUI and the distributor.

Actually, it's available in 3 packages: Stand-alone UCI engine (without GUI), bundled with Fritz-type of GUI from ChessBase (DVD only, DRMed) and bundled with Aquarium GUI from ChessOK (both download and DVD, no DRM).

Are you a correspondence player, engine enthusiast or over the board player?

Aquarium is quite popular with correspondence players, it's extremely powerful and thus somewhat complex to use. You can read more about Aquarium at ChessCafe: http://www.chesscafe.com/archives/archives.htm#ChessOKCafe

I am a OTB player.

I bought Deep Rybka 3 from Chessbase 2 years ago and I use it almost every day in my preparation.

It seems that Aquarium architecture is quite different. Do you think it worth the effort to learn how to use it?
Is there any tutorial video to teach us?

If you are analysing a lot, I would go for Aquarium. It's designed for analysis and offers a number of cool features. Since you already got the Fritz interface, you also get more now when purchasing another infterface instead of an update for your GUI.

Even if you would not like it, you can still use the engine in the Fritz 11 GUI you use now

a video from "jrobichess" on Aquarium:

If you are a patient person I would suggest going with Aquarium, since there's no better tool for analysis.

There're some video tutorials, like this one about new IDeA and some older ones for Aquarium 3, but not that many. Mostly, you have to rely on documentation, Dadi Jonsson's articles at ChessCafe (link above) and Aquarium subforum.

Those are links to the shop of the developers.

But you get always the same version, the updates are free and can be downloaded in any case. The concept of Aquarium is a bit like Rybka in her early days, you get updates regularly and there will be new features and so on. You can also make suggestions for Aquarium in the Aquarium section in this forum, many of the new features are user requests.

After installing it, get the update from http://www.chessok.com/download/Aquarium/Aquarium405Full.exe

You could check your local chess stores or you can buy it directly from ChessOK. It's a Russian/UK based company. The product is developed in Russia and financial transactions are handled by the UK branch as far as I know. If you choose download option, you should probably know that the credit card purchases are handled manually there, so it may take a couple of days before you get email with the serial number and the links (there have been cases the email went to the junk box). PayPal purchases should give instant access to the links, but if for some weird reason it doesn't happen you'd need to contact their customer service. So, worst case scenario it may take a few days.

After the installation it's likely you'd need to update the program. Latest update is 4.05, next update is due in a couple of weeks and will solve a great deal of known issues. They usually announce the releases in Aquarium subforum.
