After our quick discussion over tool assisted videos I took it upon myself to start a run, which took me a week to complete and many hours of lua scripting and time with rybka.
A little gift from me to you, Vytron, and the rest of the rybka forum. A tool assisted run to find the fastest mate for the game of battle chess.
It was a day in hell for TASvideos as several people (myself, the host of tasvideos, and two others) spammed moderators with submissions of chess
TASes after my first post of this game was denied. All of us were denied as the game was considered too boring yet it showed the most
competitiveness that I've ever seen (7 submissions in 36 hours).
I came out on top with a "non-cheating" run, after a frame war with adelikat, for a mate in 6 moves. The others offered "cheating" runs that allowed
the change of piece position before the game for a mate in 1.
I may have been close to being suspended from submitting runs, and it may not be much, but here you go: Battle Chess TAS

That's awesome! As a fan of Chess and TASes that's as good as it gets, the story seems very interesting so I'm off to TASVideos to read it
I remember being a fan of the PC version of Battle Chess and Battle Chess 4000, loving how the pieces animated and killed each other, and just making it play to see all the animations (I recall forcing the animation of a pawn checkmating the king was the hardest, or impossible), thanks for your work and the good memories!

again, this move didn't even show up on my radar.. i like your playing style... i'm sure i will have to tread more carefully now than ever...
Vyton has a very interesting style even going back to his 1 core days.

Great game tomski! I knew I was losing since I removed the draw offer, what I find incredible was that my eval was 0.60 two moves before, and I only saw shuffling, then came the infinite fail low that I could never recover from, so you managed to reach a position where all my analysis methods failed (to the point where I didn't see the danger!), good job!
Thanks and handshake. Let me rest a bit and we can start the next game where I'm white :)

*handshake* It was a pleasure playing with you. As white and you being my only opponent (you having many opponents and playing black), i think i had a big advantage.
Thinking over the game, i did not like how i emerged out of the opening. I'm sure you were better there, though i can't explain how (suffice it to say, i had no analysis that gave me an edge). I wouldn't be surprised if my win (while i fought bravely/fiercely), might have been the result of a favorable event horizon effect, where i sort of stumbled into a winning combination, rather than planning it from a distance. My only few strategies emerged late in the game: avoid locking the position, avoid opposite bishops being left, and the last one: trade down.
You gave me many scares in early/mid-game. You couldn't even guess how many times i thought i had the edge, and then you surprised me with a move that set me back.
One thing i noticed in the last position we reached: Rybka 4 was completely lost/unreliable. Stockfish and Naum knew what was going on (especially stockfish).
Anyhow, thank you for a beautiful game. i look forward to the next one. Perhaps it should be after Aug 23... i'm leaving on the 17th and won't be back until then.

> As white and you being my only opponent (you having many opponents and playing black), i think i had a big advantage.
Please note that I would have played exactly the same moves even if you were my only opponent, my analysis methods tend to be methodical and deterministic, the difference would have been that I'd have played the moves a lot faster (say, five times as fast), but I gave my best and the match was fair, I would never use having too many opponents as an excuse.
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, I know I did :), and implemented new things I never did before (what I'd call "mini monte carlo") I hope to give a better fight on the second game, now that I know you better, like in my game against ppipper
I would also be curious to see what Paul would have to say about our game. He's got better hardware than us, and can reach deeper positions...
remind me at a later date, when i will have a good look at your game.
Thanks Paul, because I have no idea at what point I had this game lost!
Just to let you know, whenever you're ready for our next game, just start the new thread.
i'm not rushing you.. it could be this week, next week, whenever.
When i notice it, i will make my reply.

hi Uly, you forgot to post result on main thread.
What main thread?
on this thread i do not see result of this game on corr chess.
Do you mean updating the game's title? Because I can no longer do so:
