Rybka is the better engine however zappa,s engine uses its dule processore must better then Rybka.
If the Rybka team would have played 2.3.2a they would have won the match
Zappa is the now considered the computer wourld champion
the zappa version played to beat Rybka is the same version sold at shredderchess.com
Finally ,
If you buy the Zappa engine does it come with shredder interface or are they sold seperatly ?

That was more than three statements.
1. It is generally believed that Rybka, at least the latest private version, is a bit better than Zappa even at 8-core. (You seem to imply that if an engine is better in single-core but scales worse it's still the better engine -- I don't agree with that.)
2. Is is unlikely that 2.3.2a would have fared better. In fact, there was a marked improvement in Rybka's results in the last four games, where the very latest version was used. (Little statistical evidence, though.)
3. This was not a world championship match, so no.
4. Yes, Zappa Mexico is what was used.
5. Zappa Mexico is an UCI engine, sold without interface.

the site of Shredder sells the download of the engine (Zappa México) just.
The program Shredder or Deep Shredder is sold separately.

Thanks for the imput guys !
1. Rybka is better, i think, especially in short games. In longer games, Rybka is slightly better, even on 8 cores. And yes, Zappa makes better use of many cores than Rybka 2.3.2a. But Vas is working on that and the latest Rybka versions, that were used from game 6 on, are already better.
2. No. Rybka 2.3.2a was used in game 1. All other versions were better.
3. No. WCCC in Amsterdam was won by Rybka.
4. I don't know, but i think so. Sadly they don't deliver Erdo's book, too.
5. You only get the UCI engines, 32 + 64 bit and 2 Linux versions. Nothing else.

Lukas

This is a very important point, since Zappa can only reach that strength with a book that avoids lines that Zappa plays badly and runs into lines that Zappa plays very good, many will be disappointed with their Zappa, even if they have 8 cores, if they don't have a book such as Erdo's.
No sympathy from me. I guess the Zappa folks should provide some examples of good openings for their engine, but its not that hard to roll your own. People would learn a lot about the different engines by seeing first hand what works best for each of them.

Unlike in comp matches, in a normal user practise it isn't important which openings work best for an engine, it is important which engine works best for the user. For example with his own repertoire he may want to practise, or for many things which aren't about certain openings at all.
It would be horrible if the only purpose of a chess engine would be to go elo hunting in Playchess' engine room with the book the engine likes best, and with the hardware the engine likes best, and with the time control the engine likes best...?! I expect that an engine supports what I like to do, not that I have to support what the engine likes! :-D

Zappa is the perfect example of this, the engine gets greatly damaged by bad book, bad hardware and fast time control. However, the strength difference at that ELO level is unnoticeable unless you are that strong; for the average chess player, a free engine like ProDeo will be enough for analysis...
Alan, I always find your postings very informative and sometimes also quite humorous.Your most recent posts ,however, have included certain passages which have set off my internal, cautionary alarm sensor.
I refer specifically to: if Timothy Leary was still alive,he could probably help you(and me);and.....but it's not that hard to roll your own.
It seems to me that you might possibly have lately been suffering from a certain disconnect and may need some direction.
To that end, I would suggest that you entreat Nelson to part with some of his renowned blunts(errr, cigars!).
I know this is not the proper venue for this but I can't be held to ordinary standards since, like Robert(Sid Serious),I'm quite insane.

David

Just to clarify, I do NOT smoke Phillie Blunts. A neatly rolled Washington Post or New York Times would offer a far more satisfying smoke. Cohiba, Arturo Fuente, Montecristo, Partagas, Padron, Hoyo de Monterey, Davidoff...now you're talking.
Alan has been a bit crotchety lately but like me he's middle-aged and doesn't suffer fools gladly. Not only that, but his wife has foolishly vetoed his plan to open a chess-themed Las Vegas strip club, which with him at the helm would be wildly profitable. Imagine it, 64 squares on the main dance area covered with gyrating women. Give him a break.

How about a printout from the CNN web site? They're supporting and showing MoveOn.org adds during their commercial segments now, you know; that's of a similar level and nature to some hypothetical scenario of FoxNews showing Ku Klux Klan adds...

Watch it Turbo, Nelson's hero is Bill O'reilly!
O'Reilly is pompous blowhard. Give me Mark Steyn on the Right and Christopher Hitchens on the Left.
That God for that!
Yes, that's why I was saying the scenario is hypothetical; FoxNews would never do that in reality, and yet we see that CNN is doing something quite similar.
First, I only end up smoking cigars in the sports book and then only after I've had so much to drink that I'm too smacked out to know what I'm doing.
Second, Nelson is in denial. Both of us are really too old to be calling ourselves middle aged.
Third, I never thought of it, but a chess themed club would probably work. I've seen backgammon themed clubs that worked really well with the girls trying to make extra money by challenging patrons to games (and I've never seen dancers so interested in learning statistics). Might even make it a little easier to get a license: "but really, its primarily a chess club!".

Damn you, Alan, you're right again. "40 is the old age of youth, 50 is the youth of old age." We're sprightly old men, but we're old men any way you slice it.
Of course the chess-themed club would work; it would become an international chess shrine. I can very easily imagine the entire reptilian ruling body of FIDE in there.

Nelson,
You're going to get lip or tongue cancer from smoking that crap!

You mean the newspapers? You may have a point. "The Surgeon General has determined that smoking liberal newspapers is hazardous to your health."
Ahah!-I have no good come back for that! :-) ahah!
Hi David,
It's sidserious (one word)- But, to the point-neither you, Alan, nor, Nelson, can afford the luxury of pleading a case of insanity. You folks are much too important to be treat lightly.
Best Wishes,
Robert

Nobody in this hobby is "important", Robert. In fact, very often the more successful we are in this hobby, the more eccentric and unbalanced our lifestyle, to the point that all the most successful people are walking a very fine line between sanity and madness. Look at poor Dagh, for example.
I have a great deal of respect for Dagh-That was not his defeat-no more than it was Rybka's. He deserves a round of applause for doing what he could under the circumstances given to him. The rest of them should have been made to eat 8 peyote buttons and left in the desert to have a spiritual chess engine epiphany.
I didn't say it was his defeat. Don't put words in my mouth. Dagh is 'tres formidable'. He's also raving mad about opening theory. Gotta like the guy.
I never said you did!
Addendum:
You know! He was my chess Guru! Until he told me to memorize a crap load of moves in my head- it was then that I began to lose touch with reality. I don't know if you remember, but last year he said, " I'll be your chess coach!" From that point on I started slipping out of touch with myself and my dog, Liza Minnelli. Oh! Yes, I even copied his instructions to me that was supposed to increase my chess skills. I have to leave my self notes now, " did you feed little Liza? Is she in the house? If not how long has she been gone now? Was it be3 or e5?

Oh, I can't decide whether to be horrified or ecstatic upon hearing this! On the surface, it sounds like I did a perfect job as Guru -- soon, the fact that I am your guru should be about the only thing left that you can confidently remember. On the other hand, what about poor Liza Minnelli? ;-)
Hi Dagh,
Good to hear from you! :-) Little liza is well and doing very fine.
Best Wishes,
Robert

Dagh, that's your funniest post since the one about your dear old mother telling you what a big disappointment you were. If you and Robert have a few more equally hilarious exchanges, Nelson and Alan's grip on my soon-to-be-announced
1st Annual Rybka Forum Postings Humor Award, Pairs Category, might be in jeopardy. I hope I'm not being indiscreet in revealing that Nelson is a lock to grab the 1st Annual Rybka Forum Postings Humor Award, Solo Category, because of the
sheer volume of his humorous postings.

For the pair category, I think you really have to go with Sid & Sid :)

Vas, a very good point which I'd completely overlooked! Now, if only you let yourself go like this more frequently, Nelson's lock on the Solo Category trophy would be shakier.
