58... Qd8 is probably bad as well, I don't see how white is winning after 58... c3
And why not 60.... hg 61. hg fg. Does not seem like white is having much here.

Game 9 is also looking very promising now (move 40)!!.
Seem the strategy of getting Zappa out of book fast pays off again.

Where do you get the moves from? ChessOK broke down at move 50...
From playchess site. Apparently at the moment everything is fine there.

Gambito.
Regards,

I thought there was something wrong with my connection. I've been trying to refresh my browser. Anyway, as long as Rybka is winning, no problem. Miraculous comeback indeed. :)
I'm afraid Rybka has no more then a draw (with 3 pawns more!). Have a look below.
I do not see this in
http://www.chessok.com/broadcast/live.html and I can only see the first 50 moves.
I wonder what is the reason that this link does not give the latest information that is known.

Please keep Game 9 updated for us folks at work(SMILES) I can't see a darn thing.
I am still not sure that black wins based on your pgn.
opposite color bishops and the question is if black can get progress.
Note that I did not analyze it with chess engines and the question is if you see a progress in the score of black when they analyze deeper.
The fact that the score of zappa improved relative to the score in previous plies is not a good sign
Edit:it seems that Rxa3 was a mistake based only on my human eye of watching the pgn and not based on analysis with chess engines.
Zappa expected a different move and it seems that zappa simply has more knowledge about chess than rybka.

Rybka made the UNBELIEVABLE blunder of 71...f4? giving the half point and instead of the win it fought hard all game it took only the draw.
Rybka played 71...f4? here:
7B/5k2/4p3/5pR1/4r1p1/8/3Kb3/8 b - - 0 71
game finished. draw.
to finish the match equal, rybka must win tomorrow.
tomorrow in case of a draw, zappa wins.

A bad way for a draw.
Computers will never be any good till they sort this out
most good humans can force the draw and computers have no idea
blacks best hope was to sac the rook for the bishop and take a plus 1.8 into
the end game and win this way instead of trying to win like it did
very bad result for Rybka I feel.

Until we adopt very different approaches, like ¨Monte Carlo¨ method, there will always be freak endings that computers will draw when they should win. We can only hope to gradually decrease the frequency of them. But this doesn´t mean that computers are weak, it just means that Anand might occasionally scrape a lucky draw against them in a long match.
Hi Larry,
I've just though on the karo-kann and just a little on French defense when Rybka played it.
That was great.
I think here that the chance was on Zappa. So you must do a great preparation for the last game.
Finding a win is difficult but, with Rybka, there is a good possibility. You just take care on some
drawing line and use a line that Rybka handle fine.
May I have your mail Larry?
Mine is j_futur@yahoo.fr.

I've already written to Vas my idea for the next win because I don't like to be late.
Thanks, regards.

With all due respect mr Kaufman, i think your commentary is inapropiate. Why despise the skill of Mr Anand, who is in the verge of being world champion. Ok even mr Kramnik said that any of the two engines that are playing will easily win their tournament but why you must remark that he will be lucky to get a single draw? Is your playing entity far superior from the human play? The answer it seems to be yes, but you could be more humble in your triumph.
P.D. You dont see the gm's making fun at the mistakes made by Rybka in this endings, do you?

I don´t at all mean to denigrate the skill of GM Anand. Actually I admire him and am very pleased that he seems about to become World Champion. He is a real genius. He was watching our match yesterday. I only mean to say that no human can hope to compete with today´s programs. Right now Anand could get some draws against Rybka when he has the White pieces, but within another couple years I think that no human will be able to draw the best programs anymore. It´s not an insult to humans, they just cannot calculate like a machine.
Hi Larry,
Its a real shame rybka missed 71... Ke7 in the 9th game, especially when previous rybka versions found the winning move. Wouldn't it be possible to create a rybka knowledge base for non regression testing? It is a 1 day work (for a software engineer) to create a framework which could execute a database of test positions where it is clear which move is clearly the best (or the moves that are acceptable) and create a report like "XX% of positions solved in the specified amount of time".
I'm sure many here on the forum would be happy to create and discuss here such a database of test positions. This could ensure that rybka's knowledge is continually increasing over time and let enthusiasts participate to improve rybka a little.

In general, Vas and I don´t have a lot of confidence in relying on test positions, though they do have some value. The problem is that optimizing a program to do well on test suites may actually make it play weaker on average for various reasons. Finding the best move in positions where the best move is debateable is probably more important than finding the best move in positions where it is clear, because already Rybka will find the best move in the clear category 99% of the time perhaps, whereas in the debateable category the percentage of best moves is much lower and hence much easier to improve significantly.
This is exactly what I meant when I said that rybka is a program that you cannot trust when she shows big advantage.
It also happened too often in my correspondence games.
I believe that it is rybka's main weakness and for some reason the rybka team did not care to fix this weakness.
Zappa was more realistic and evaluated the position only near 2 pawns for black.

Hahahahaha, I love Rybka. Nevertheless, sometimes I do become sceptical sometimes in her evaluation, especially when the pieces become less and less on the board. In the middle game, I do trust her evaluation.
