It worked for Dazzle and Keoki. And there are almost no programs I can exclude from startup except antivirus.

Dazzle: "Less memory worked". That means less memory worked, not the original amount!

You're wrong. Less RAM worked? Think again. He meant less hash worked. And he said to upgrade for more RAM asap.

:facepalm: That's what I meant too. Just because 1024 MB hash doesn't work* and 256 MB does, doesn't mean 1024 MB will work* after 256 MB works*, it doesn't even make any sense!

*With large pages.

With large pages there is a trick to start them before anything else could spoil all the RAM. Later, as long as you don't reload Rybka, it doesn't matter much, as long as you have enough RAM. So it sounded perfectly reasonable to full the system again, this way through Rybka hash.

No, I don't do that. His total ram is only 4096 OS takes 1-3 depends on what os you are using, then say you have roughly 2 left you don't have enough free ram.

This worked for me in W7 - I ran the command prompt in administrator mode, and permitted changes when the UAC promt came up. The command was successful.  But to clarify, I need to turn UAC off completely to actually use large pages ?

Won't work unless UAC is disabled. But, getting it working at all under W7 Home Premium is an accomplishment, thanks to the ntrights program and instructions here

By turning off UAC, I can run NTrights, and then Large Pages works. The catch is that when I turn UAC back on, the SetMemoryLockPrivilege has been turned off and so Large Pages no longer works.
Can we assume that with Win 7 Home Premium, one cannot use Large Pages with UAC turned on?

I tried right-click Aquarium shortcut and "Run as Administratior" but still no Large Pages with UAC on.

How does one turn off UAC in Windows 7 x64?
I specifically bought Windows 7 x64 on a new system to run Large Pages and now I don't find a way to set it up. Is it possible at all?

hi..
all members i have turned off uac
and done according to ntrights.exe
by running it in command promopt..and there the message shows successfull
but when i played a game it shows such an error in log file..
help me..

personally i have all the windows 7 versions,and they all have Local Group Policy Editor,
anyway,me too had some problem to configure the "Large Pages" for rybka 4,but in the end i did.

It's the same for XP x64, but you don't have to do anything about UAC as this doesn't exist.

it works fine on my 64 bit Vista Ultimate. my friend and i tried on his 32 bit vista but to no avail. if anybody out there is successful in their 32bit vista OS, kindly share the details. cheers

Basically, large pages work on Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows 7 32-bit, but not on Windows XP 32-bit.

ok i also got it working a few times on Vista Home Premium, with UAC turned off,
some Ram memory cleaning, setting Ram in R4 at about 1400 or so (only have 4 Gig total i think,
and a lot is used by windoze); and the ntrights command, but...
quite often no matter how i try with re-entering the ntrights, deframenting  disk,
rebooting, etc. i keep on getting error 1450, and the largepages still *dont* work. :(

some questions: do i always have to re-enter this ntrights command, or is once enough ?
any clue why i got it working occasionally but currently not anymore ?
(i dont run any other programs, and i keep on trying/rebooting and cleaning
some ram or so with somte tools, but its quite a hassle/nuisance of course).

NB i do have a disc with Vista Ultimate, but it says upgrade not possible, have
to go to ''anytime online upgrade'' which will cost me 190 $..

other option is to make a complete backup of my system/datafiles excl opsys,
which will take some time (total 100 Gig or so), and do a complete new install of Vista Ultimate.
and/or buy some more Ram maybe, but then i have to carry this thing to a shop.

NB when it worked, it said large page used 1024Mb and indeed it deed speedup
considerably, due to which i got back at 5th place on ICC standard with accnt bookbuilder
(without largepages i got too many draws against eg crafty, and sometimes even arasan)

any geek (or Nick?) who can help me further ? thx in advance,
and it might be useful for other as well i suppose,

That's the error for low system resources.  You can try setting your hash to 512 or less.  Try looking at what is getting loaded when you reboot. Turn some of it off. Try this site for some other answers.

went back to 512 in setting, and got it working again; ie the largepages
yes error1450 set something about low system resources.
and in another posting ive read to set rybka4 in startup,
and not run other programs (well there was some ram optimizer
running after my startup, just shot it down and started
rybka4 with chesspartner , and now 512, and now it works fine.
NB in fast games i see its only loading about 20-25 Mb per thread
so i guess 1Gig Ram in settings was asking too much i suppose;
at least on my simple quad..

Very strange. If you set up the engine to load with large pages enabled, and start up the GUI/engine right after booting up, they work fine in XP64.

You should also consider adding a memory defragmentation tool. The one in 7-max works well unless you disable the disk paging file (and then it doesn't work at all). Defragmentation takes almost as long as rebooting, but it doesn't require as much interaction.

There's a simple solution - it isn't free but it works very well for me: using 24 (or 32) GB RAM solves all  problems. Even with 8 GB hash Rybka 4 can be restarted several times and large pages work :cool:

Perhaps it's Crucial or Kingston that pays for your advice?  Recommending Solid State Disks (SSDs) might also be bring in some referal $s.

I'm going to have built a new Intel 6-core machine. Would you seriously recommend 24 gig of RAM, and if so, what kind?
(Mainstream RAM preferred, as I had great difficulty getting OCZ to make good on its warranty for the bad RAM I bought from them.)
