Rybka 4 is now finalized and packaging has begun. Ordering information can be found at ChessBase (www.chessbase.com) and Convekta/ChessOk (www.chessok.com). Downloads from RybkaChess (www.rybkachess.com) will start on Wednesday (26.5.2010) evening.

A huge thanks to everyone on the Rybka team who helped. Lukas and Jiri have made huge contributions recently, Lukas with his clustering project and Jiri with his opening work. Nick and Larry helped considerably with the release, and Jeroen and Felix also chipped in.

Another huge thanks to the Beta testers for their help, and to Dadi for providing a sub-forum for this purpose. We've had 3500 posts in this subforum, it's been very productive.

More detailed credits will be found in the release notes.

Full documentation about Rybka 4 should be available by this weekend. I'll be here answering all questions and putting together a FAQ this weekend at the latest. We'll also be playing in Leiden 28.5-30.5, Hans will operate for us there, so this should be a fun week. :)

Congratulations Vas!  Rybka 4 is the strongest (soon to be) available engine.  I can't believe that you got large page support in and working so quickly, I hope we didn't beat you up too much to get it in :) As I have said - you are a coding Ninja!   Hi, to all my friends here - I had a great time with the beta test, it's such a pleasure to work with really smart people and a privilege to contribute, now I can go hide again for a few years!

Various info will be added to our web site over the next few days. The prices for the www.rybkachess.com versions are 36 Euro for single-processor and 65 Euro for multi-processor.

I never tested this, but after looking at the final product probably not. However, R4's hash usage has been improved and I now daresay that it's on the level of Zappa (i.e. excellent), this helps to speed up MPV in transpositions.

Vas, I read beta/alpha testers were testing with different settings. I am sure they found the best settings for different time controls. Will you be sharing the best settings or you will make the best settings as the Default settings?

The settings were optimized for what was tested, but you can find better settings for specific conditions at home (that's why the settings are on release).

Mostly, yes. It can depend. For example, some settings were shown to be especially good against the clones, but less than ideal vs. the rest, and even so, it depended on the time control. There is no doubt there will be threads galore discussing this in the near future.

Since I am just banging around on a 2 core Lenovo, should I even worry about the Large Pages thing?  Or would it  be more hassle than it is worth for me.  Especially for analysis.  Or will I be fine just using R4 normally and not worrying about Large Pages.

Let me put it like this: 15% faster means that you:

Can get the analysis output that Rybka would produce in one hour, in just 50 minutes.
Gain 15 instant, free Elo in games.

If that doesn't interest you you can ignore the setting.

Could you please include in the document the system requirements (OS version, 32/64 bit processor, etc, etc) to get LP working?

This would be useful in case one doesn't get this working, to know if he or she should o should not invest time trying to figure out how to make it work.

We'll try. It's hard to tune everything perfectly but there are no really major flaws in the default settings.
