Jiri makes getting a draw against Topalov look easy :)
Quite a good achievement!
The game was part of the Mundial Chess freestyle tournament, the winners got (besides the prize money) a free trip to Linares and played a rapid game against Topalov.

Wao - that's great :)
Was the game played with the help of a computer ?

no, it was a normal rapid game. You can see a little picture on our website.
Wow, too much Rybka Beta 4 must be affecting him!
Really impressive job Jiri! Congrats!

Veselin accused me, that i have implemented chip with Rybka.
Only kidding:-)
Only kidding:-)
Was Topalov aware that you are one of Rybka's bookmakers?
Did he ask you to help him prepare against Anand? ;)

Yes, we talked lot of about Rybka and opening theory.
No comment :-)
No comment :-)
Can you share what Topalov said about Rybka and possibly other engines?
Wow this 'no comment' gives rise to a lot of speculation :)
I'm now betting on Topalov winning vs. Anand.
Previously I thought Anand would be the one to tap into the Cluster Rybka-4 and opening-theory know-how.
Seems he might have missed that ship...

Your wild speculations don't seem so wild now!
there was nothing remotely (NPI) wild about them in the first place, imo.
Delaying Rybka 4 because someone wanted to keep it privately for his own use? It seemed wild to me, at the time.
when that someone is a potential or reigning chess world champion (with whatever purse retaining/upending that title entails)?? not in the slightest.
It's likely (>50%) we'd never know for certain.
If I were in Anand or Topalov's shoes, in addition to buying exclusive access to Rybka-4 Cluster + opening-book work, I'd throw in a confidentiality clause that does not expire after the world-championship match is over.

i dont believe a word of this speculation just a bit unreal to me.please quote me when proved wrong.
I was on your camp, but this "no comment" from Juri is extremely suspicious, what was not commented!?
It could have been the arrangement between Topalov to delay Rybka until after his championship match, so that his competitor doesn't have access to the best thing out there.
Remote Rybka was going to be released in december (they put the ad online and everything) and then it was mysteriously delayed too.
So, still pure speculation, but I definitively deem it more likely than before.

aw, crap. so you're not holding back on us, are you. unless you're just having fun with us here.
vas makes a solitary post saying R4 is coming soon, jiri doesn't comment on whether or not vesselin asked him to help prepare- i don't view the latter as suspicious, necessarily? and would ves be that slow to get on the R4 train, that it would take a personal meeting & game with its bookmaker to raise the possibility of personal access?
R4 in march! [remember, i'm the same guy that nailed the october release date for it]

Well it's just a speculation I had. I wasn't suggesting anything more than that as there's no publicly available information and possibly will never be.
It's just that considering the amount of money Anand and Topalov are spending in their prep for this match, it just makes sense they'd want to tap into the strongest chess entity in the world (which is Lukas Cluster + R4) looking for any small advantage possible and at the same time to to not allow such an advantage to their competitor. Even if just to not have to worry themselves on whether their opponent has tapped into this.
And this makes sense not just for the prep phase but also during the event itself. We know from the recent Anand / Kramnik WC that one of the openings (game 1 & 3 I think? I should go check this out but too lazy) happened twice, and Anand killed Kramanik both times on it - in Black! So it only make sense that Anand or Toaplov team of seconds would want / need to tap into a super-chess machine from their hotel room during the match so the team of seconds would be able to find holes in whatever openings were played, to decide if to scrap a line or attempt to bring it back on again.
Would be very interesting if there will be a formal 'never happened' on this or just an on-going no comment.
Anyway if I was on Vas' team I am sure I'd sell to both teams why they need this and start a bidding war. Could be an easy $100K made for the Vas team for an exclusive access to R4 Cluster for 4 months - say Jan till end of the match in April. I'm sure it's a ballpark figure that could be had from one of the competing teams provided the right negotiation took place :)

maybe.however i feel we are all just getting drawn into this CCL.no evidence whatsoever.if i am proved wrong i doubt it woud alter Rybka sales by more than 5% which would be disproportionate to the time involved.just look at the internet.Fritz beat Kramnik,Shredder was WC for X years.who does an 14-16yo believe is best.he has never heard of testing sites and all his friends down the club say Fritz beat the world champion no other engine did this.maybe i am just a cynic but try to think like a kid who asks his dad to buy him this.
If there was competitive bidding, the chances that the process would remain secret would be very low. Either the person who ended up winning the exclusive right to use R4 would win the match, and his opponent would claim he had an unfair advantage, or he would lose the match despite having access to R4, and his opponent would be even happier to relay this information.
HEM, right just the threat of using it is almost as great as the thing itself :)
>i dont believe a word of this speculation just a bit unreal to me.please quote me when proved wrong.
I am a bit late on this one but here you go.......
yup,seems i was wrong.:)
Don't take it bad Paul. In 'real life' people pay me a lot of money to find out what others don't based on very slim info ;)
This is a quality that must also be quite helpful in Freestyle chess. ;-)
Thanks Booby :) :)
Ouch. Sorry :(
Btw - I have tons of photos of blue footed Booby's from my recent Galapagos visit :)

Haha, yes, I realized just after posting that you would be very familiar with this particular bird. :-) (I've had an interest in birds since a very young age.)
well my nick name is a bird (in greek ... :) ) too. I think the English name for it is Bubo Bubo :)
In Greek, we use it as slang too, meaning "stupid" , idiot... etc
well my version is the second one :) LOL

There is an English word buffoon, but it originated from an Italian word...

Wow! Topalov & Jiri vs Anand & Vas all using Lukas' Cluster...It's a small world... ;)
I wonder who gets a paycheck from topalov when he becomes WC. :)
With my computer(s) Jiri would most likely have won ;)
With my iPhone also.
Game was played with tempo 15min per game without help of computer.

I wonder what you thought during the game - were you afraid to lose that rook ending at some point? I mean after f5 (Re6+! was easier) it looked a bit complicated, but still a draw. The opening was quite good for you, those e3 setups against the grünfeld are rather harmless I'd think.
What did Topalov say after the game?

At this moment i was very short of time. We had less than 3 minutes. I desperately looked for counterplay, when i thought that f5-f4 is enough, but Re6 is of course simplier.
Veselin was very surprised how safely and strong i played during all game - he only waited for my mistake but my mistake didnt come (for long time).
He was able to probably flag me, but he played as real gentleman and wanted won game on the board.
In the final position i had 10 seconds left when Veselin 13 sec..

OK, you could claim a draw in that last position as walking to b8 and bringing the rook to c8 is a primitive and easy draw :)
Btw., was that before or after he won against Gelfand in a rook ending? :)

We agreed immediately after reaching R+p:R endgame
It was just 1 day after Veselin-Gelfand game

well done Jiri, congratulations!

Thank you!
Hi Jiri
That's a fantastic achievement, was wondering what your rating is?

Elo 2276
Ok that's pretty strong, how many players did Topalov play simultaneously?
