Yes I see the function to save the board image.

I just want to save the board position as a FEN. Chessbase UI's do this easily.

I searched the (absolutely horrible) UI of aquarium for this feature and found nothing.

So just tell me how. Also, I'm not looking for some cranky link to a centuries old post with totally different wording of the question that I should magically have stumbled across even though nothing came up when I did try.

Because as you can see, I'm already cranky enough for the both of us.

This is the game I played.

As you can see it started from a non-start position and continued with these moves.

Ctrl-C from the end position gave me this.

There is no way to input this raw data into Aquarium to return to the position I was at. I have to manually enter all these moves.

Is Aquarium really this bad?

When I try to load game from clipboard from analyze options.. all it does is generate a position as though all these moves were played from the starting position instead of from the starting FEN.

Since I am pasting it with Aquarium's own format.. it seems ridiculous that it couldn't parse this data properly.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about (it actually also applies to your reply). I copy-pasted the game above without any problems and the starting position was exactly the FEN position. It would really help if you describe step-by-step what you are trying to do and how you do proceed.

i started a game from that FEN. then played out the moves shown.

when i copied the game (because i wanted to close aquarium and start it up later and continue the game), what went into my clipboard is what i pasted above, something that looked like a pgn, with the starting fen, and the moves that followed from that FEN.

How do I take this information and paste it into aquarium to return to the final position?

And why was I not able to simply save the FEN of the CURRENT position wheN i wanted to close aquarium.

there was no option anywhere in aquarium to copy position.

I think I'm starting to understand you. When you are in play mode you can paste PGN file (text above) by right-clicking and choosing paste or simply by pressing ctrl+v on your keyboard.

When you want to copy the position you can copy game as PGN, ctrl+c. If you only want the final position you can copy the game as PGN, ctrl+c, switch to sandbox, paste the game and copy position as EPD.

but why get only the last position? i don't get it

Or just press Ctrl+<the key that's left of 1>.

Thanks. I set ctrl+e in options->shortcuts to copy as EPD, but it doesn't seem to work when in play mode, works fine in sandbox though. Strange. Not that I need it in play mode, but it's good to know that it's possible.

I see that I can copy as EPD.

So now I can do that.

But since I don't have the EPD of my game, how do I restore that? All I have is what I pasted above: (starting FEN and moves following from that FEN)

sorry but you got me confused.

It seems you dont want just the FEN of the position (epd is a little bit more than fen)

I you have that data , that is the PGN of the game simply paste it (ctrl +V) anywhere you want (sandbox, database..... etc)

Just make sure the notation pane has the focus (at least i think is required, but i am not sure)

Did you try PASTING the above pgn to the play mode? If yes what is the problem?? When you paste that, you can see the game. So clicking to the last move will move you to the last position.

Try to describe your problem better. What you did, and what you expected.

figured it out.

my problem isn't worth explaining.

i just had some panes closed. (not sure why they were closed)

when i opened them back up, things were a lot clearer.

right click on the notation window.  click copy, copy alll positions as epd set... I think will do what you want, at least that is what it sounds like you are asking for

Copy as EPD. It's basically the same thing.
