Anybody know if it's possible (and if so, how) one could go about connecting the Shredder UCI to the FICS. I'm hoping to play with the Rybka engine via the Shredder interface directly connected to the FICS. Thanks!
i don't think shredder fritz junior... interfaces can connect to FICS but chesspartner can

Babaschess can do it, too (AFAIK; I know you can at least analyze with it). You could also use Winboard with Polyglot. Or Arena 1.1.
Hi,
I guess you wish to play online matches on FICS using your Shredder GUI.
Well, it's not possible in general but there is a workaround as with other GUIs as Fritz as following:
1. Set your Shredder GUI with wanted engine and opening book
2. Put winboard adapter (winboard232d.exe) into Shredder GUI folder and connect it with GUI (google for details)
3. Install WinBoard GUI and put winboard adapter as above into GUI Folder
4. Create a short cut on destop as following:
your path\WinBoard\winboard.exe /zp /ics /icshost 127.0.0.1 /icsport 6000 /fcp="winboard232d.exe -pipe"
5. Go online
6. Startup your Shredder GUI and then immediately WinBoard GUI via short cut.
I tried that in past and it worked fine. The only disadvantage: there is a little bit broken time management, both GUIs are running with little different time controls. But you gain the possibility to use your abk or ctg opening books.

Arena is the only way to do this that I know of ..., :) Oh yeah and Babaschess too!
bud,
you're crystal-clear wrong here. You don't read carfully then I said I quote: "I tried that in past and it worked fine."

I will try the winboard directions now...I have Babaschess and I can INSTALL an engine directly into that for analyzation, although it won't let me analyze DURING the game.
I tried to follow Caissafan's instructions (albeit quite poorly) before "giving up" and simply downloading and running Arena. I've managed to "install" my Shredder 10 and Rybka 2.3.1 engines into Arena and can connect to FICS. I played but one game and was able to see the analysation of the position by the engine WITHIN the same window as Arena, which is PART of what I wanted to do, but I still had to physically move the pieces.
Is it possible for the engine to do everything as well? I'm confident this can be done, perhaps I need to choose the "autoplayer" feature?
Any help would be appreciated.
