Is an invitational event a world championship when some programs have been barred from entering? The Junior vs Fritz match was controversial but they did not call that a world championship. Chess is looking more and more like boxing.

"Chess is looking more and more like boxing."

That's partly true. Fortunately, at list for computer chess, rating lists will always provide a decent comparison. Of course, rating lists also have they problems (what books, hardware, versions, elostatistics etc should be used? etc); but significant differences are quite clear in any case.

Boxing is screwed up, but it has a long way to go before it reaches the totally dysfunctional state that chess is always in.
