How to thank you enough Vasik ?
?! Maybe you should try Rybka 2.2n2 :) http://localhost/Rybka/index.php?auswahl=Demo+version
hahah! like i need a newer version to make a fool of me game after game. But i will give that a try after i can defeat 1.0 on a regular basis. I havent played since some months after the release of 1.0 and lately i thought i would get back into it. But, thanks.
"after i can defeat 1.0 on a regular basis"
are you joking? :)
are you joking? :)
yup
i dont think ill ever be at the stage that i need rybka 3.9beta6 or rybka x
Rybka is made for analysing games and openings. It's not primarily made for playing against it :)
What would be the best way to handicap rybka that is within reason?
playing handicap games is a good idea. maybe a knight is ok.
Rybka is a beast...even without a knight I cant afford to make a single mistake. But , waiting her out is not that hard. The one thing I got from that is exactly what it seems rybka does to me.No high-risk manuevers. Move quietly. And wait for my positional mistakes...be damned if i castle too soon , she just homes in on my king all the better! Needless to say there is sweat.
Try also setting it to negative depth, like fixed ply -2 or -3.

I'm curious!! :-P Where would you set this in order to play handicap?
I don't know, ask Vempele, he came up with the discovery that negative depths work :)
Here's a post from Vempele:
Internally Rybka will search to depth 4. You can confirm this by telling her to search to negative depths (the results keep changing until -3).
Otherwise it would have to be telling you what moves were played last :-P
Would get really interesting when we got to before the starting position :)

And branching factors of 0.5 :)
