That's a question sure to draw an overwhelmingly positive response. A more interesting question would be something like "Would you pay $50 to be able to see....".
Parent - - By bluemax (**) [ie] Date 2008-09-19 04:28
What about Chessbase? would they not have a interest in sponsoring a match?
Parent - - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-09-19 05:01
Well, I guess it never hurts to ask, but I wouldn't expect any such sponsorship to be enough by itself. ChessBase is not the only distributor of Rybka.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-19 07:21
well, they have contact to guys in german government which like to waste the money of our country for such matches. :)
Parent - - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-09-19 16:13
In that case, if you know ChessBase people feel free to talk to them about this.
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-20 10:08 Edited 2008-09-20 10:28
no, I don't have contact to them...

Parent - - By auhsoj22 (*) [fr] Date 2008-09-19 17:04
the same for me!
Parent - - By vadim milov (*) [ch] Date 2008-09-19 17:27
50$ is very generous of you guys but I guess it`s not enough.
Parent - - By saxon (**) [hr] Date 2008-09-19 18:25
Hello Vadim,
The equation is X*50$=Y.
If X=100..200 ,would Y be in the sufficient ballbark ?:)
Rybka forum has many members...
Parent - - By vadim milov (*) [ch] Date 2008-09-19 18:50
:)  I just meant it will be difficult to organise such a match and it`s better to hope for some official sponsor.
Parent - - By saxon (**) [hr] Date 2008-09-19 19:05
Hopefully,such sponsor will be found.:)
My congrats on a fine play against octal Rybka.
Parent - - By vadim milov (*) [ch] Date 2008-09-19 19:07
Thanks a lot. I`m new to this forum and would like to express my views on the match.

Thank you GM Milov for playing and congratulations on a great result.
Parent - By Linus (***) [at] Date 2008-09-19 19:42
Congratulations for your great performance against Rybka and welcome to this forum. I have been following most of the games live on Playchess and I was very impressed. I sure hope to see more GM Milov vs Rybka matches in the future.

Why is this 'a more interesting question'?
Parent - - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-09-19 20:28
Almost all Rybka forum readers would like to see such matches, even if they only take a look now and then. Why not, nothing to lose. It's more interesting to know if forum readers want such a match badly enough to buy tickets at a price similar to a sports event they might attend. This doesn't mean that we will go this route; it would be much better to find a corporate sponsor.
Parent - By Razor (****) [gb] Date 2008-09-20 07:48
Oh I see, well yes I agree, it is always more of a test to the question when you apply a consequence, but surely, the same would be true of handicap matches - ask people if they would spend $50 to see that too.  This was the reason for my input, surely you would want to apply the same monetary consequence - if you did, what would the side by side result show - in favour of handicap or not?

I saw an idea posted by Soren a while ago (about a week?) and thought what a great idea.  Hold a tournament where a number of top engines would play against all Humans.  There are no prizes for the computer programmers other than PR from the event - the highest scoring GM would still win the event.  So in a way, the GMs are playing against the computer programs but it won't count as far as the overall result is concerned.  I think Soren has an idea here that should be explored further.

Just a thought.

If you mean $50 to see the entire match, yes.
Parent - By Werewolf (*****) [gb] Date 2008-09-20 08:50
i agree - $50 for the match
Parent - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-09-20 15:08
yes, that was what I meant.
Parent - - By albitex (***) [it] Date 2008-09-20 18:18 Edited 2008-09-20 18:21
Larry, I would pay 50 $ for a match GM vs Rybka no handicap, but to some conditions.
If I pay I would like:
1: video cam of the match. I'd like see the Gm and operator on Pc. (besides I don't understand because, despite is possible, almost any game on playchess is transmitted with video cam).
2: after every match, interview to the challenging GM of Rybka (transmitted in direct).
3: a MI to comment online in real time the games.
I would pay 50/70 $ to see a match human/Rybka with these characteristics
Parent - By exigentsky (***) [us] Date 2008-09-20 18:56
I agree with this. I would probably be willing to pay $50 if we had special access like this. Otherwise it's a bit much given that even WC matches were broadcast free (I can't understand why!). If it's just broadcast normally, I would be willing to pay $10 but not much more.
Parent - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-09-20 18:56
Certainly these things are possible; #2 is no problem, #1 also seems doable, and as for #3 I suppose you mean someone other than myself (since my comments are limited due to broadcasting on two servers while also making the moves on both real and computer board) which of course can be arranged at some additional expense.
Parent - - By Mark (****) [us] Date 2008-09-20 19:52
Foe $50, I'd expect a front row seat in Larry's living room plus lunch.  :)
Parent - - By albitex (***) [it] Date 2008-09-21 18:01
Mark , in the next  imminent championship of the world, to be in the play room and to dine with
Kramnik and Anand the ticket is of 280 $ for single game!
Parent - By Mark (****) [us] Date 2008-09-21 18:45
Shhhhhh!  If Larry finds out, he may raise his price...
Parent - By BB (****) [au] Date 2008-09-22 03:33

>and to dine with Kramnik and Anand the ticket is of 280 $ for single game!

How much value does the German cuisine really add? :-P

Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-20 11:08
yes, i start a new poll with the question larry suggested
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2008-09-20 11:13
Also check:

http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=7524

If x5 more people are willing to pay $10 you get the same money.
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-20 11:30
ok, this one is about normal chess, the other one is not clear about that point, so both polls make sense.
Parent - - By sainzlei (*) [tw] Date 2008-09-20 11:32
Before you change my poll title , you should to ask me first .

Don't impolite .
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-20 11:34
well, the result was so clear that this could be seen as a rhetorical question...
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2008-09-20 12:00
You could have at least notified him beforehand "I'm going to delete your poll because (etc.)"
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-09-20 12:08
ok, right
Parent - By sarciness (***) [gb] Date 2008-09-20 18:06
I'd like to see, but wouldn't pay $50.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2008-09-21 06:47
Does this mean that the users that don't pay won't get to see anything, neither results and games?
